Authentic but family friendly area in Mallorca

Looking for authentic but family friendly areas in Mallorca, for us and 6 month old. This is our first family holiday, we usually like to head to smaller more local places when we went away previously, but realise we need to consider having a pram, beach safety for baby etc this time around. My sister recommended cala d’or, but this looks quite ‘resorty’ so not sure? We are both foodies so anywhere great for food is a plus! And walking distance to beaches. Neither big drinkers, I went to Magaluf in my hey day so happy to not go back 😂 Going in September 😊

Port de pollenca is very nice - Pollenca town is very authentic but it's a few miles inland. You could easily stay there and get the bus to the Port/beach area though.

Second port de pollenca. It is a resort, but a nice one

Agree. With Puerto Pollenca. Nice level walk along the beach front. Bus to Pollenca town. Great market.

Another vote for Port da Pollenca

Agree with Puerto Pollensa, although it is “resorty” (!) also. Soller is beautiful too.

It is resorty, but it's not full of tat shops/get your full English breakfast here kind of places 😂

Most coastal towns will have lots of overseas tourists but many are nothing like Magaluf or Santa Ponsa.

Puerto Pollensa is probably overrun by Mumsnetters if the threads on here are anything to go by. I wasn't that impressed tbh, beach wasn't anything special.

We like Paguera, not authentic at all, nearly all the tourists who go there are German, but it's very family friendly, lots of Spanish food available and three lovely beaches including good snorkelling.

Thanks everyone, I had looked at pollensa in top 3 options but didn’t know anyone who had been, so that’s great!

Ohh interesting, will have a look at paguera. Beach wise, to be honest after the summer we are having, any beach we can actually swim in will be nice at this point 😂😂

Illetes. Hotel Palace Bonanza Playa.

Everything is relative when it comes to "authentic" in Majorca, or anywhere else near the coast in Spain, but you might want to look at Portocolom (sometimes written Porto Colom). Quieter even than Pollensa, some great restaurants overlooking the harbour, a really quiet calm bay (look at the map, it's like a lake) with a couple of small beaches on the east side, and a bigger beach to the south (Cala Marsal). Plus you can get the bus into Cala d'Or if you feel a sudden urge for a full English.

I love Cala D'or and have been many times with my children. Everything is close by, the beaches are lovely coves and the food is good too. Would definitely recommend.

Alcudia is nice

olympicsrock · 08/07/2024 20:07

I like Cala Vincente ( little resort between Pollenca and Porta pollensa. Easy to push a pram about . Little beaches and restaurants - lots of villas to rent.

Also like Alcudia - lovely old Roman town and nice beach.

We always rented with these guys. They do a great deal on cars. Some real gems

Port de Soller is gorgeous. Amazing food, pretty beach, loved it there.

You might be better off considering Menorca tbh if you don't want a big resort. Most of coastal Mallorca is touristy but if you're definitely wanting Mallorca then the east coast is quieter with smaller resorts

Thanks, we don’t necessarily want it quieter, we love a bustling old town vibe, just not football and karaoke I suppose?

Thanks everyone! Think we will go to port de Pollença, hotels look lovely and love the idea of being able to head into the old town part for the market etc 😊
