Hi! Me and my family (husband, son 3.5 and daughter who will be 15 weeks old at the time) are off to Vienna for eight days at the end of August.

I’d love some recommendations for:

1.	What else we could do in Vienna itself.
2.	Where else we could take a day trip.
3.	Restaurants serving typical Austrian meals or cakes that would welcome a baby and pre-schooler.

We’re pretty adventurous and are happy to travel up to two hours on the train. Not huge art fans! We love historical buildings and pretty gardens. Pre-schooler will be on board with anything interactive.

We've booked a garden apartment with a pool right next to Schoenbrunn Palace so can hopefully spend a few afternoons swimming if the weather is good!

So far I have:

Day trip to Bratislava
Schoenbrunn Palace (inc zoo, palace, grounds etc)
Music Museum
Science Museum
Spanish Riding School

I definitely recommend spending some time at Prater. On the Jesuitenwiese meadow, there is a great wild-west themed playground with an epic slide. Then, a short stroll away, Max Winter Park has splashy water tunnels and fountains. Take swimming stuff and a towel.
There’s another brilliant water playground on Danube Island. Again, take swim stuff and also a beach mat and some buckets and spades. If you need some supplies, there is a small kiosk selling beach toys, ice cream and drinks. There are also showers for cleaning up afterwards!
I also recommend the Zoom Kindermuseum but just be warned, it is crucial to book before you go (some workshops can book up days in advance).
Heindl's Schmarren & Palatschinkenkuchl does a large range of sweet and savoury Austrian pancakes. It’s fairly casual so you’ll be fine with small children.
Jorg’s Cafe is traditional and is one of the few places with a kids menu.

If you aren't in to horses the Spanish Riding School is really dull. I thought it was fab, DH err not so much.

I'd suggest Prater, Schonbrunn Zoo and the Schmetterlinghaus - butterfly house.

@Forgottenmyphone Ooh the kindermuseum looks great! Thanks for the tip about pre booking. I'll get on that :) I'll look into the restaurants too!

@AnnaMagnani Ah ok. I wasn't planning on spending a long time there. Did you see one of the shows or just visit? I'd been reading that you can go and watch their training sessions which are cheaper than their actual shows.
