I just got back from Davy Crockett last night.
We had a great time. Disney was really fab and the children loved it. Davy Crockett itself is a bit hit and miss in terms of cabins (some look new, some look old. We were in an old one) but the facilities are great. It has a lovely indoor swimming pool with water slide and spa, a buffet-style tavern, a bar and a shop, as well as a mini farm with sheep and horses and an Indian village with teepees. We had a bit of snow which made it all the more special, waking up in a snow-covered forest.
You'll have a great time there.

Btw, we went by Eurotunnel, which we found to be really fast and efficient. it's only a 35-minute crossing and it goes from Folkestone, which is near Dover. it cost us about £130 for return tickets. The route to Davy Crockett from there is very straightforward. once you hit the A104 it's signposted all the way. Just follow signs to Marne le Vallee.

LyraSilvertongue · 11/04/2008 00:23

I also like the breakfast which is a bag containing fresh orange juice, baguette, brioche, Nutella, jam, butter, milk (UHT) coffee, hot chocolate , sugar etc which you have to collect from the cabin at the entrance to your 'trail'. There was enough in there to make a packed lunch to take into Disney every day.
You also get voucher for a dishwashing kit from the Trading Post, which contains washing up sponge, dishwasher tabs etc.
The Trading Post is very expensive so take as much as you can with you.

Oooh thanks Lyra, sounds good! is it far to the actual parks? and what time can you checkin/ have to check out?

OP posts:
LyraSilvertongue · 11/04/2008 09:45

It's about 10 minutes' drive to the park (maybe a bit less).
You can check in from 3pm and have to check out by 11am.
Let me know if there's anything else you need to know, while it's all still fresh in my mind.

pucca · 11/04/2008 10:41

You are lovely thanks for this i haven't got a clue!

I know my dd (4) has her heart set on that tea with cinderella thing, do you have to book that in advance? or can you book on the day type thing? do they have the character meets at Davy Crockett?

We only ate at Davy Crockett one night and Goofy came in to say hi to the children, which DSs loved. We didn't do the character meal but they're at Cafe Mickey in the Disney Village and you are advised to book in advance.
Disney Village is where most of the restaurants are for evening meals. It had some all-you-can-eat buffets, diners, a Planet Hollywood, a German restaurant, McDonalds and a Rainforest Cafe as well as Cafe Mickey. My boys loved Planet Hollywood. Most places will cost you 80 to 100 euros for a meal for four with drinks.
There are lots of places to eat in the Disney parks but they generally close about 4pm. The characters do the rounds of the parks restaurants.

Def book character meals as early as you can. We missed out last time as they were booked up for the whole week we were there. Phone in advance def.

pucca · 11/04/2008 18:38

Thanks Hula, how much do they cost?

Lyra....How much to eat out?! scary, what sort of spending money do you think is needed then?

Also not sure how we gonna work it if you can only check in at 3pm, as we were hoping to drive down to Dover through the night (5/6 hrs), but if we do that looks like we will be hanging around to check in

If you are going to eat in disney, can I suggest the Silver Spur (I think that is what is was called).

They do an all you can eat buffet, which is quite good, there is live music and there are lots and lots of characters dropping in, which keeps the kids happy while you rest your aching feet!

Book if you can to avoid the queues

Hulababy · 11/04/2008 19:18

You can check in at DC before 3pm, you just can't get in your cabin. You can still access the facilities and yu can still go over to Disney. We did.

Character meals vary in price. It should say on the DLP website I would think. I really can't remember. The most expensive is the Princess evening meal in the castle. Chef Mickey you pay for the food you eat; it isn't a buffet. The tea party looks nice if going when it is not winter - and not bad priced either. DD does ove character meals as you spend more time with each character. However at DC Ranch you will get to see a fair few characters anyway as they are often milling around during the afternoon/evening there.

We ate out most of the time when we stayed at DC. But we just go for the basic stuff, nothing fancy. I don't think Disney is really the place to worry too much about the quality, etc. on the whole DD often had the Mickey meals of pizza or hot dogs.

Last year we stayed away from Disney hotels so ate at home a bit more. There is a large supermarket at Val D'Europe not far away from DC. There is also a supermarket itself at DC which wasn't too badly priced.

You get breakfast included Ia ssume. You colelct it froma little hut on your cul de sac type road each morning. It is continental style.

TurkeyLurkey · 11/04/2008 19:21

Pucca- you get a big stick of french bread each with your breakfast. Take some sandwich fillings with you (we did ham and cheese and stuff) and use the french bread to make up sandwiches to take into Disneyland Park (food extortionate and crappy).
Security men search your bags, but only for bombs, they aren't bothered about a few sarnies!

Hulababy · 11/04/2008 19:24

Yes you can def take some food in. When we went with Katz in october we took in lunch time food for the three girls - so bread, a bit of cheese, a yogurt, and some veg/fruit. Wasn't an issue at all. We then went to one of the outet places to get the adults a snack and drink and sat at a table in the corridors near the Main Street bit, no one stopped the children eating our own stuff.

LyraSilvertongue · 11/04/2008 19:31

Turkeylurkey, we only got one baguette between four of us. But we did get brioche too.
We took food in every day and no-one had a problem with it. I also stocked up on little bottles of diluted juice for the children at Sainsbury's before we left. Saved us a fortune in drinks.
We got through quite bit of spending money but we went for nice meals every evening, not just burgers and chips. You can easily get through £100 a day if you have to buy lunch and drinks too.

TurkeyLurkey · 11/04/2008 19:33

One baguette betwen 4! Blimey, must have been my lucky day, we thought it was excessive getting one each..how much bread can one eat for breakfast?!

pucca · 11/04/2008 21:13

Thanks everyone, good to know you can take your own stuff in, was planning to do that, thats also good to find out that we can go into disney before 3pm, i had visions of us wasting time somewhere else, hanging around waiting

Quite impressed as we booked direct through disney, and its costing £364 for 3 nights/4 days, beginning of Oct, for 4 of us. Ferry is £70 return, so not as bad as i thought.

Also the other good thing, is could pay just a deposit of 10% and pay the rest off however i want by 1st Aug.

We did the princess meal for our dd's last October age 5 and 2 - it was really great for princess fans - we booked the first sitting and glad we did coz it looked really busy later. The princesses come to your table and get your dd's up to dance with them. Snow White taught dd how to curtsey to her prince - she thought it was fantastic. Other princess fans stood outside for up to an hour just to get a photo with a princess!! I'd rather pay for the meal if if you can even though its expensive.
