Ryanair bag allowance

Hello,

I'm flying with Ryanair and wanted to know if they count a handbag (like a messenger bag holding phone and purse) as part of the free small bag allowance. Does anyone know?

I am taking a small, fit under the seat bag (within Ryanair's free allowance) but also have a handbag (small). Just wondering if I'll get charged for this or if I need to cram it in to the small bag!

Strictly speaking it is 1 bag. I generally have a very small handbag along with my carry on bag. But I could stuff the small handbag in if asked to do so. I've been asked once in the last few years.

You need to cram it , or pay for priority and 2 bags - usually £20
Ish each way

Just wear it under a jacket, cardigan or jumper.

Wear it under a jacket. I’ve been known to wear server layers onto the plane too!

Yeah you’ll need to hide it or stuff it into the bigger bag. You can’t bring 2 onboard unless you’ve paid to do so.

I fly with Ryanair quite a lot. Always with hand luggage (ie fits under the seat in front). Never had an issue with having a handbag as well. Obviously not Mary Poppins sized!

Easyjet are the ones who can be strict - and I have had to stuff my handbag in my rucksack more than once.

I believe that you are allowed a duty free bag on all airlines so you can buy something at duty free and put your bag in the carrier bag - or keep a duty free bag from a previous trip and use that.

I just take a small crossbody bag and put it in the underseat bag. IME they are strict, certainly when I flew LGW - Dublin recently.

This. Just be prepared to stuff it in if they ask (or hide under an extra layer).

Alternatively, you could pay £0.10 for a plastic bag from the likes of Boots / WHS and claim it’s your duty free allowance. They can’t take that one off you or make you pay.

Just to jump on this discussion, with the under the seat bags, are we likely to be ok as long as can stuff our bags into the measuring box?
The kids have their school rucksacks, lightly packed so very squashable, but slight too long.
Thanks!

Yes. It’s also very unlikely they’ll ask you to put them in there - I fly with a bigger rucksack than “allowed” but because it’s not super huge and I always carry it on my back when boarding, I have never once been asked to check the measurements.
