Singapore & Langkawi or Bali - is it easy to DIY book?

Inspired by a similar thread... how easy would it be to arrange & take a trip to Singapore for couple of nights then a beach stay Langkawi or Bali (July 2025).

We're a family of 5, 2 grown boys for our last big family adventure - so keen to make it good value.

Thanks for any advice.

Very easy.
I have been to Singapore several times, usually stay in the orchard road area. It’s easy to get around, lots to see: little India, gardens by the bay, night safari, museums, raffles etc. Eating out can be expensive as Singapore is the land of the ++ on your bill, but good hawker centres for food.
I have flown from Singapore to Indonesia with Air Garuda, but lots of choice and budget airlines too. I stayed in Ubud which is fabulous: monkey forest, great restaurants, good location for day trips. Kuta is not that nice imo, but plenty of other beaches.

We flew into Singapore, stayed at a friends apartment overlooking Marina Bay (#betterlifechoicesthanus) for about 4 nights, then caught bus/train/taxi to Melacca (Timez Hotel - good location) for a couple of nights, then taxi/train to KL stayed in same friends KL apartment (#didimentionlifechoices) for a couple of night, train/ferry to Georgetown, Penang (The Prestige - handy for the ferry) for a couple of nights, then train/ferry to Langkawi (The Danna) for 4/5 nights.

It was all pretty straightforward but whether you would enjoy it depends on if you want to 'be' somewhere, or whether you are happy to 'have a journey'. If train travel doesnt suit you you could fly.

We stayed at the majestic hotel in KL . It was perhaps a little out of the way but very colonial and was easy to walk to the night markets which are sndocrsxy but felt totally safe. We also stayed at the Danna in Langkawi which was lovely. We didn't realise until the last night that there are some nice) and much cheaper£restaurants outside the hotel on the waterfront.
We hired a car there and really enjoyed seeing the island.
Eastern and oriental in George Town . In my opinion the modern block is much nicer than the original.
In Singapore we stayed in the swisshotel and paid a little extra for an upgrade so we could see the fireorworks at the marina bay sands hotel from our teeny tiny balcony, was in a good spot in a shopping centre / sounds terrible but was great .
You will have a wonderful time!!

Your message really made me laugh! Especially as I have friends like that but they are not so generous unfortunately!!

Very easy. If you stay in KL make sure your accommodation isn’t opposite a mosque.
