Travel insurance for Stroke patients?

My mum is booked to come on a family holiday with us and the grandchildren and she had a mini stroke a few days ago.
She has lost strength in his right hand but that's it, thankfully nothing else it affected and they have put her on medication.

We've only just booked the holiday and she had planned on getting her travel insurance over the last few days but then this happened.

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced travel insurance we could look at to get her covered so she can come away still please?

Thank you 🙏🏼

I think it's very unlikely that travel insurance would cover her for the consequences of a TIA if she recently had one. In the event of a medical claim they will be asking about her recent medical history.

If you are travelling within (most of) Europe then you can use your GHIC at a public clinic/hospital if she has a recurrence. You would have to consider the possible cost of repatriation if something went really bad, but if you can't get insurance the GHIC will cover most things. 🙏

I’d look at AllClear, they have a partnership with The Stroke Association

You will need to declare your mum’s stroke, and most insurers use the same medical screening. If she’s had a TIA the questions are about if the symptoms lasted more than 24 hours, how many TIAs she’s had in total and when the last TIA occurred. I’m not sure what the screening is like for a stroke rather than TIA.

She will also have to declare that she is not travelling against medical advice.

My DH had a TIA last April (and he has LOADS of other serious pre-existing conditions) and we had no problem getting insurance for a holiday in Sept. Just google travel insurance for pre existing conditions. I think we used Avanti but we’ve also used AllClear and FreeSpirit.

Does she have to have more investigation? I know my insurance company will not cover you if you are awaiting a hospital appointment for a particular condition.
