Hi all, looking to tips really

We are heading to France a week before the Olympics, we will be out before the Olympics starts unfortunately, but I wondered if I could get some suggestions of nice places to visit around?

I was thinking to book accommodation near the Effiel tower but I understand that this on the edge of town so not too convenient for travelling to other places? I would like us to visit the Louvre too. We are only there for 3 nights but really want the kids to have a fun trip.

TIA

The Eiffel Tower is in a central location, not on the edge of town, whatever gave you that idea? There are several metro lines that run through the local area.

How old are your kids?

If you search up Paris, you’ll find loads of tips.

The main sights are all separate from each other, eg Tour Eiffel and Arc de Triomphe to the west. Opera, Louvre and Notre Dame in the middle (think of Chatelet station as being your centre, if you must). Sacre Cœur to the north. Use the metro to get around; it’s quick.

Be warned that several areas now cannot be accessed unless you have a museum booking for eg, as Paris starts to close off areas for the JO. Tuileries for eg. Ticket prices for transport will double very soon.

In terms of accommodation, look for places in the suburbs accessible by RER. We live just outside Paris, but less than 20 mins from the centre by RER.

The area directly around the Tour Eiffel is, btw, not very nice. I never go there unless taking visitors. I much prefer the Tour Montparnasse for the views. I’ve posted lots of tips on all the similar posts, so you can search up.

Are they into football? We visited the Paris St Germain stadium which was a hit with our kids

It’s being used for the JO, so I don’t think it’ll be open for tours.

Hi OP, please search online for a map of what will be blocked off in Paris. The main block offs are for 2 weeks prior to the opening ceremony (for security reasons). Many of these blocked off areas are the main tourist sights (because they will be part of the ceremony, or a games location). These areas are not accessible to the public without a pass, and you can get a pass if you specifically require access to a location (because you live there or have an appointment etc.).

Once you know what areas are available to you it will be easier for you to plan! Paris is still a great city, and the city is not seeing as huge tourist numbers as they expected for the Olympics so it might not be such a disaster as the map seems! Enjoy!
