Would you fly with a horrible sinusitis?

I have a cold- I’ve tested for Covid daily for a few days and it’s negative.
i lost my voice earlier in the week and now I have a streaming nose and my sinuses are very painful.
i am really not well today.

I am going on holiday on Sunday- flight is around 2hrs.

Somebody I was chatting with just mentioned that she wouldn’t fly with a sinusitis - and that made me wonder. Would you fly with inflamed sinuses?

I would wear a mask on the plane to protect my fellow passengers from the cold

Olbas oil sprays and inhalers are quite good. I have chronic problems as I suffer from allergic rhinitis so naive the constant pressure over my forehead and lethargy. It's awful but it wouldn't stop me flying.

Problem here is sinusitis is one of those conditions with various degrees of severity so it’s hard to judge what a reasonable course of action is…

Slightly stuffed up ears and nose is one thing but in extremis is it can be very painful to the point of being incapacitating and can lead to actual injury. If the decision is to go flying then the priority shouldn’t be just masking the pain, it should be to make every effort to keep the “tubes” clear.

For info the UK CAA advice is as follows:

“ To assist in this flow of air and avoid pain in the ear or sinuses, it is helpful to periodically swallow, chew or yawn during the descent. Babies often cry, and this has the same effect.
In order that these mechanisms work efficiently, it is not advisable to fly with an infection of the ear, nose or sinuses, as the swelling, which occurs with this infection, can prevent free flow of air and result in pain, bleeding or in the most severe cases, a ruptured ear drum.

Son had bacterial meningitis, affected his sinuses, used the neti pot. Said it helps. I was given dymista once. I'd see your GP

Hey,

How did it go? I'm having the same atm. Horrible headache and pressure in the forehead and sinuses. Flying in two days and alone with my 1 year old. I feel that I'm so stupid if I go 😂
