I'm looking to book a city break for 2 adults/2 teens for going this July- have left it late. Where would people recommend that has things to see n lots of independant shops to wander about that teenage boys will like and cafes etc. thinking will get an Air BnB. Thanks

Budapest,so much to do,cheapness to negotiate.

Wherever you go,get the lonely planet book and it'll give ideas for you all to see off the beaten track

Krakow for sure.

We hired electric scooters, Aushwitz and the miners route in the salt mines (it was really interactive).

The high of out trip was the escape rooms called Lost Souls Alley. We were completely terrified...jumping in chest freezers and being chased by someone with a chainsaw. I highly recommend, particularly with outgoing teens.

Thanks everyone- spent all last night researching all your suggestions and have decided on Copenhagen for this summer and have added Berlin n Krakow to list for next time. If there's any must do's in Copenhagen, please post.

My Copenhagen recommendations:

Tivoli Gardens
Swimming in harbour baths
renting a boat and exploring the harbour / canals
Rosenborg Castle
zoo
Round tower
Malmo day trip
Roskilde day trip
Trip out to Louisiana Museum of Modern Art

There is a Copenhagen city card which gets you in to lots of attractions, but you’d want to do the maths of whether it’s worth the price.

I loved Copenhagen. We stayed in a great place near The Meat Packing District which is interesting.

A visit to Freetown Christiania is a must.

Absolutely loved Mad & Kaffe for breakfast/brunch

edit to add Malmo on the train. Trains are great and cheap, as is the metro.
Very helpful staff at the stations too.

@cherryassam I've lived in CPH for 5 years, so happy to answer any Qs you have / share some local suggestions too :)

Do you have dates set yet? Loads of festivals and street parties at this time of year.

Another vote for Berlin. We went last year when the DC were 13 and 16 and they loved it. Highlights were hiring bikes in the park, Eastside gallery, spy museum, DDR museum, and just generally mooching and going fur drinks in Kreutzberg.
