Off to Playa Blanca next week with ds 11 months.

Will possibly be hiring a car for a few days - anyone got any must do's/see's or restuarant recommendations?

El Golfo restaurants are great.
As is Cesar Manrique's house.
Miss out the big Sunday market place - Teguise?? It was rubbish.
Playa Blanca is a fab place for small people - we had a lovely time there with 18m old DD.

The volcano place, the cactus place, the caves, - anything to do with Cesar Manrique.

We went about 7 years ago (pre-kids) we stayed in Costa Teguise, we hired a car and did our own exploring. We ended up in a small typical white village in a restaurant that was built into the moutain, there were some caves and things about.

I can't even remember if the food was any good, or what the village or restaurant was called, but I am sure someone would be able to tell you while you're there, but if we ever go back to Lanzarote, that is the first places I would head for, literally just for the views and the caves, they were fantastic

Not sure I've been much help, but it did feel like the kind of place you could only stumble across by accident, we didn't see any advertisment for it or anything.

Oooh, we went to Playa Blanca a few weeks ago and it was wonderful!

Definitely go to Timanfaya and see the volcano. The coach trip through the lava fields only lasts about 30 minutes, so it's not too arduous for the little ones.

The beach at Playa Blanca is nice, and there are lots of comings and goings of boats to watch.

The Rubicon Marina in Playa Blanca is supposed to be fantastic, but we didn't make it that far along the beach - too busy doing nothing!

Enjoy! X

Avoid all horrid resorts. Hire a car. Go to EVERYTHING Cesar Manrique has done - Jameos Del Agua, Timanfaya volcanos, Cactus Garden, Mirador, Art Gallery. I think the restaurant natalieJane is talking about is the one that used to be owned by Omar Sharif - Lagomar. Pricey but setting is great. The restaurant that Manrique owned (can't remember where or name but will google) is also worth going to - nice rustic food and lovely place.

Also spend a morning in Harifa (will check name) lots of nice little galleries and cafes.

El Golfo is also worth a visit and the 'tubes' a bit further up the coast.

Art Gallery is at Castillo do San Jose in Arrecife. Another Manrique designed place and nice restaurant here also with great views over harbour.

Haria, not Harifa. If I went again, I would stay up on the north side of the island near Haria. It's a lovely drive from Playa Blanca - roads are good and nowhere is too far.

Also visit, or just drive through, the volcanic wine fields in the centre of the island...

Manrique's house, cactus garden and volcano.

Also visit the Fundacion Cesar Manrique, which is in Manrique's house. This is quite near the Lagomar so you can do both on one day. Lagomar is quite difficult to find though so persevere: it is built into the side of a hill behind a big wall at the top of a housing development and has a very small sign!
