Have you just been away and can you please recommend a beautiful place for us? Every year I feel like I am chasing a unicorn! In an ideal world I am looking for:
-warm in May/June (minimum 25 degrees), going for 8-10 days
-close to an airport, no more than 1 hour drive
-in a lovely seaside town, no car needed ideally
-sandy beach (non negotiable)
-Hotel or apartments with breakfast and maybe pool
-restaurants, cafes and shops in walking distance
-not Turkey, Cyprus or Dubai and not long haul
-thinking along the lines of Italy, Greece, Spain etc

Children are primary school age. Am I asking for the impossible? Got tired of AI resorts and constantly running to the buffet and no nice towns nearby. Found an amazing Hotel in Italy this year but beach was awful (hot shingles, wavy sea) and beautiful beaches quite a drive away. Any suggestions please? i would love to plan ahead and look for deals soon. Thanks

If you want a minimum daily high of 25°, guaranteed, absolutely guaranteed, every day for 8 to 10 days, such that one single day below 25° will somewhat spoil your holiday, then you will be hard-pressed to find that guarantee anywhere in the Mediterranean before about the third week in June. Before that it's always quite possible to have 2 or 3 days with quite a lot of cloud and not much above 22°. There's maybe a 40% chance of that happening. The weather simply hasn't stabilised at that point.

Of course, May in the Med is usually "very nice", and maybe I'm reading too much into your "(minimum 25 degrees)", but if you really, really want that absolute guarantee before mid-June, and especially if "minimum 25" means preferably 28° or even 30°, then go to the Canaries.

Oh please I know that nowhere is guaranteed amazing weather every day. But I don’t want to go to Cornwall for a number of reasons and weather being one of them.

half term in England is usually end of May/first days of June. I also didn’t say it has ro be the Med, I said countries like Spain, Greece etc and the Canaries are part of that. Can you suggest a nice sandy beach town there?

It's a while since we went, when the kids were smaller and all we wanted was warmth and a pool. Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, and Lanzarote. We hardly saw the towns, sorry. (But I do remember going to La Graciosa from Lanzarote on a day trip - that was great!)

Crete. Various parts tbh. It has a unique history and lots of archaeological buildings. Chania and Rehymnon are beautiful towns but also some areas in the east are lovely too. It'll be at least as warm as Scicily. Went there may half term 2 years ago, it was at least 28 to 30 degrees. It'll be a minimum of 24/25 if you are unlucky. Or could be 30.

We love Portugal 🇵🇹 Alvor or Lagos on the Algarve are both wonderful. Lagos is bigger, a really lovely town. Both have miles of amazing sandy beaches.
