Suncream

We have our first family holiday abroad in about 10 years soon and it looks like it’s going to be red hot!

What suncream would people recommend for teenagers with super pale skin that will be in and out of the pool all day?

we obviously wear suncream here at home but aren’t continuously getting wet and washing it off.

thank you ☀️

Altruist factor 50 as recommended by my dermatologist, oncologist and Melanoma UK. Amazon sell it. Body version and face versions available.
As with all sunscreen be sure to put it on 20 mins before going in the sun to allow time for skin to absorb it and put enough on which is about a shot glass full for a whole body which is more than most people realise is needed.

Ultrasun kids - expensive but really lasts

Georgieporgie29 · 21/06/2024 16:44

Thanks for this. I don’t mind about expensive as long as it doesn’t keep washing off.

kids are mid-late teens so I don’t think they’ll go with the rash vests unfortunately.

I’ll look into the ones recommended and that article thank you

This stuff is great. I'm pale and ginger and it gets me through 38+ degrees in Greece.

It can leave some white residue on you but is the only thing that works for me when in the water.

I use a different cream if wearing dark clothes out for a meal for example, this is definitely just for water activities.

Aldi or Lidl, and I find the dry oil type ones are pretty good for when you’re in and out of the pool. The main thing is you need to buy a lot of it - two bottles per person at least for a week away, maybe three if it’s very much by the pool.

Georgieporgie29 · 22/06/2024 14:38

Thank you. I’m actually going to get a few different ones so if anyone gets prickly heat or doesn’t get on with one for example we can swap around. So I shall add to the list.

Altruist for definite. We've been using it for years and never burnt. Either that or Ultrasun Sport.

We are going to Cyprus to probably similar temperatures 😬

If prone to prickly heat, Ultrasun is fab. Amber Solaire too. Nivea is terrible for skin reactions for us.

My DS used to use the ultra sun sport but I wasn’t sure how well it would fare in the water.

The standard Ultrasun is very water resistent. We have used it for a few years, in and out of pools, only reapplying once after lunch. It takes copious amounts if soap and scrubbing to remove it every evening, so I think it is very water resistant!!

Is that the cream one? I think I’ll get some of that too thanks

Yep, cream. Expensive, but we have never burned, and that's using SPF30. We do tend to break for a couple of hours midday though, for lunch and shade.
