Taking 2 month old abroad

I'm taking my baby to Turkey in July and it's meant to be quite hot at the minute. He will be 9 weeks old and we go for 2 weeks. Any tips on keeping him cool? We have 2 pram fans and there'll be air con in the apartment but I'm worried about him overheating

I took my daughter to Turkey for the first time when she was 8 weeks old.
Try to stay out of the sun for the hottest part of the day, if you are by the pool or on the beach sit under the umbrella. If you are breastfeeding you will probably find you have to feed more, you can also give him sips of cooled boiled water if he is extra thirsty.

You can buy Johnson's baby cologne in the supermarkets which helps cool their skin and just pat his skin with cool water.
Turkey is very baby friendly so if you need anything just ask and people are more than happy help.

We had a UV sunshade for the pram which was really helpful so you knew they wouldn't burn. Also a little fan that clipped on. I think there are cooling mat you can also get for the pram so baby keeps body temp lower.

I live here and have 2 babies!
It is so hot at the moment.
Lots of paddling pool time in the shade and we nap indoors wit the AC on during the hottest part of the day
Walks are done early morning or late evening once the sun has started to go down. Be prepared to adjust your schedule for the climate! Not unusual to have late starts and late nights even with kids. Turkey is extremely baby friendly - youwill have a lovely time!

I’m in Turkey at the moment with and yr 8 old and a 4 yrs old. It was 39c in the shade the day we arrived. I think we won’t do this part of world at this time again.

But yes to @professionalnomad suggestions of getting up early, napping in the afternoon or in door activities and staying up later. You have to adjust your pattern.

It won’t be much of a holiday!
You’ll need to spend a lot of time indoors in the cool. It’s one thing being born in a hot climate but quite another to visit.
Also traveling before completing vaccinations isn’t something I’d want to do personally.

What was the rationale for the holiday? Babies are very portable but it’s not the obvious choice for a newborn.

This might be useful. https://www.sydney.edu.au/news-opinion/news/2023/02/22/parents-are-unintentionally-heating-up-prams--here-s-what-you-ne.html

If you are breastfeeding, look to drink at least three litres of water per day. Babies do get thirsty. A cool room to sleep in but sheltered from draughts.

I will advise to take a warm cardigan and socks for you if you are going to be sitting in aircon for ages in the middle of the night. You can get quite chilled then yourself.

if you’re breastfeeding then take some cool cotton sarongs to use as breast feeding covers.

cotton clothes for the baby - if you have aircon on in your accommodation make sure baby is not in a very cold draft

cotton sun hat when there is any risk of direct sun - babies this age shouldn’t use sun cream so if there will be sun, provide shade.

don’t forget that airports and flights awaiting takeoff can also get very warm so baby might be grouchy - but once the flight starts many babies calm right down due to the vibration and white noise.

keeping yourself cool and calm and making sure whoever you are travelling with looks after you is also very important!

Spend the main part of the day indoors in the air con….even in the evenings it’s stifling outdoors
