Where in the Gold Coast? And do you have to go there?

Weesiewoo · 16/06/2024 10:37

What time of year?

We done a helicopter tour over the Glasshouse Mountains which was absolutely spectacular and not too expensive, departed from just north of Brisbane. Highly recommended!

The nicest beach we found on the Gold Coast was at Currumbin, really beautiful. Avoid Surfers Paradise it is a dive!

Depending on when you're travelling I would definitely consider a whale watching tour from Sydney.

From Sydney I'd head to the Blue Mountains. For me Australia is all about getting away from the cities and getting out into nature.

I live near the Gold Coast and it's not my cup of tea.
Late February will be hot. The southern end of the Gold Coast is the nicest. Surfers Paradise is foul. It's like Benidorm on speed.
How long are you on The GC for What do you like to do?
I would highly recommend Heading into the hinterland to see the rainforest and do some bush walking. There are lovely cafes and lots to do on Mt Tamborine, or beautiful walks and a lookout at Springbrook. Perhaps see if you can get a tour.
February is too early for Whales sadly.
If you enjoy swimming, the beaches are beautiful, although swim between the flags as the waves won't be what you are used to.
There are some nice bars and restaurants to sit and people watch.
Hope you have fun.

If you’re there in February it will still be light in the evening. So make the most of that. So after work in the evening
1 go for a wander round the botanical gardens
2walk round circular quay and the rocks
3 take a ferry to manly, stay for dinner and ferry back when dark to see the city lights
4 take the ferry to watsons bay and walk the cliffs to Bondi
5 go to Bondi and do the walk to Coogee beach
6 take a ferry up the river to parramatta
7 walk across the harbour bridge then train back

get an opal card which covers ferries trains buses and light rail

For your 6 days definitely at least one day in the blue mountains, more if you like walking. The Opal card extends that far although the train would probably be quite slow.

I love Newcastle which is north of Sydney. This is also a day trip.

Spend some time at a beach - pick your favourite out of Bondi,Manly etc. Bondi has a very strong undertow so swim between the flags.

See if there’s anything on at the opera house that you fancy seeing.

There are a few different wildlife parks if you want to see native animals up close.

Do the walk the bridge - you might need to book this in advance. Be warned they breath test you so don’t drink much the night before.

Go up the Sydney tower for the view. It has a revolving restaurant too

Have a wonderful time

Re Gold Coast, you probably mean Surfers Paradise? Its not very nice but if you head a bit more south, areas like Broadbeach and Burleigh are really nice on the beach. Burleigh Hill is lovely and there's heaps of cafes/shops.

The Hinterland is worthwhile if you have a car (waterfalls, walks etc).

There are some really nice small group day trips from Sydney to the Hunter Valley where you visit the smaller wineries and nice food is included. Avoid the big groups though, they are feral.

Explore the Northern Beaches, the L90 goes all the way up the coast from the city to Palm Beach. Stop at Newport and visit the Newport pub for beautiful views over Pittwater.
