Hi, I haven't hung out in London without children for years and am coming over with an American friend who has never been. What would you consider the absolute must do's nowadays? And where would you stay? Budget is up to about 600GBP a room a night. I mean, last time I was there without kids, the Shard didn't exist and the Atlantic did! 😂

Check out Kit Kempton’s London hotels - they aren’t so much destination ones but are very gorgeous, eg Ham Yard, Charlotte St, Soho etc. Or you could go for something flashier like the Corinthian.

As for what to do - do you want theatre or museums, art galleries? London has some world class options. Is the American friend a royalist? If it’s summer I’d definitely include a park or Kew Gardens. Perhaps an afternoon tea somewhere, Petersham Nurseries, Sketch or something more trad like The Savoy.

I’ve recently enjoyed mooching about Shoreditch area. I’d swerve Battersea Power Station as it’s basically just a shopping centre, very uninspiring.

Friday - themed afternoon tea (maybe Mad Hatter’s at The Sanderson?), a wander round Covent Garden then one of the top stage shows.
Saturday - a morning walk along the Thames, afternoon at the Tower of London, eat at Sky Garden, then head to Swingers in the City afterwards.
Sunday - mooch and brunch at one of the markets (probably Borough or Spitalfields, depending on where you’re staying), then head out to Kew for the afternoon.
