Solo Christmas break

I can’t stand another Christmas here so I’m looking to go away this year. I’ll be travelling alone, have a budget of about £2k and need to fly from Newcastle.

I’ve been looking at AI resorts in Canaries, Egypt, UAE as I really want some sunshine.

My concern is feeling like a plum sitting on my own on Christmas Day in the restaurants surrounded by families/couples.

Has anyone been away alone at Christmas? How did you find it? Can you recommend anywhere where I won’t feel so conspicuous amongst celebrating families?

TIA

@TeamGeriatric Thanks 😊. I went for the highlights of Morocco tour with Explore. Looks fab!

I would try for the Caribbean if your budget can stretch

I'd go for an AI personally. I have one booked in January in Lanzarote and I can't wait! I appreciate it's not the same as during Christmas though.

I'll be in Tenerife at Xmas with my daughter. She has special needs, so I'll have my hands full but I'd just like to say that every time I've been to an AI, I've been too busy doing my own thing or with family so haven't been fussed on judging anyone else.

Oh, I totally get where you're coming from! Solo travel during the holidays can be tricky, especially when you’re surrounded by big family celebrations. I’ve done a solo Christmas in an all-inclusive before, and there were definitely things that made it a bit easier and even enjoyable.
First, have you thought about adult-only resorts? They’re generally quieter and tend to have more solo travelers, so you don’t feel as out of place. I went to one in Tenerife and was pleasantly surprised to see a lot of other solo travelers. The resort also organized group activities and dinners that made it easier to meet people if you wanted to, and the vibe was relaxed rather than overtly festive.
Another idea is to look for group trips geared toward solo travelers—companies like Solos Holidays or Friendship Travel run holiday-specific trips to warm destinations. You’ll get some sun and company, but with the option to do your own thing.
The UAE and Egypt sound great if you're after reliable sunshine, but the Canaries might feel more familiar and laid-back, especially if it's your first solo holiday over Christmas. Good luck with your planning! Let us know where you end up going!
