Stupid question....

Once your toddlers are out of a baby cot, do you have to pay for 2x rooms for every holiday??

So many hotels I am looking at say the max room occupancy is 2. I feel like I'm being completely daft, does everyone just pay for 2 rooms and hope they are interconnecting and send DH to sleep in the other room?

Sorry from a first time mum who doesn't travel often... Blush

No, it usually means two adults. Hotels will often provide a pull out bed for children.
ideally look at hotels with family rooms, these are usually more spacious too.

Look for rooms that have a double bed and a sofa, the sofa will often become a sofa bed. Our 13 year old DS (admittedly he's not huge) still sleeps on a sofa bed when we're away in the same room as us.

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 12/06/2024 10:25

You can book a two bed apartment, that's what we used to do once ours were a bit older. It gives you a bit of extra space too

Our 12 year old daughter still shares a room with us. Lots of options for family rooms or sofa beds.

That makes sense but when you put in the occupancy of many websites (ie 2 adults 1 child) I feel like I keep seeing results that say max occupancy 2 and you can't book it. Maybe it's just Marriott that is strict (trying to book through Bonvoy)

Are you sure? Check booking.com it ll give options of rooms with sofas x

book family rooms which usually offer extra single beds or interconnecting rooms.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 12/06/2024 13:50

Some city hotels don’t have family rooms if that’s not their user profile- ie mainly people on business trips.
try the Marriott website directly

wishIwasonholiday10 · 12/06/2024 13:53

I even find that booking.com is not always accurate. I have searched for a baby and 2 adults and some options don’t come up (or show prices for 2 rooms). I then do the same search with 2 adults and plenty of hotels say there is a cot or extra bed available when you look at the details of the room. You can also try booking direct with the hotel.

I agree about looking for a larger room or apartment type room where there is a separate sitting area you can use once child has gone to bed.

Book a family room with a sofa bed

Stompythedinosaur · 12/06/2024 14:22

There's usually an option to search for hotels which offer family rooms.

eurochick · 12/06/2024 15:14

Most hotels will accommodate up to two children in the room. Often on a sofa bed or put you up bed. If you have 3+ kids you have limited options to avoid getting an extra room.

maw1681 · 12/06/2024 16:15

It usually means 2 adults and they will put an extra bed or sofa bed in for kids.
Or we have booked one bedroom apartments in the past so us in the bed and DC on the sofa bed.
When they were younger we tended to do UK holidays so booked somewhere with 2 bedrooms so we could watch tv etc after they'd gone to bed.
I will usually only book on sites that tell you exactly what beds you're getting though just in case. My DDs are getting older now so they will share a double bed/sofa bed if they have to but prefer not to if possible!

Small print usually says if they allow extra beds for children.
Booking.com is great because it tells you how many beds you get
