Where has good weather in August?

We are thinking of doing a "big" holiday next summer, somewhere other than the usual Spain/Canaries type we usually do.
Unfortunately with school holidays it would have to be in July/August really which i know isn't the best time weather wise for lots of places on our dream list (Patagonia/Chile, Thailand, Caribbean, Costa Rica).

Any ideas?

DC would be 10 & 14

It wasn’t it was outside San Jose. I can’t change the fact that Aug is considered the wet season. You may well have had a good experience, but the fact is, the weather across CR is wetter in Aug. It also is true that it doesn’t deter lots of visitors.

Poas? We went there and I'd read beforehand that if you don't go first thing when it opens it can cloud over. So we were there at opening time, legged it up to the crater and had amazing views. But when we left half an hour later it was starting to cloud over. It's the luck of the draw too, I suppose. Some days are just cloudy.

We love Thailand although haven't been in July/August- It may be the rainy season in certain areas.

I think it was. We made a last minute change but unfortunately it rained all day so no chance despite an early start! It was a nice walk though and we also went to Arenal and Ricon so no lack of volcanic action. Costa Rica is an amazing destination.
