Misdee

Vista Road is not far from me. Is Tower the one in Jaywick? What did you think of Jaywick?

Sorry to hear about your car crash

misdee · 02/01/2005 20:06

Yeah its the one in jaywick. I was quite upset with the state of the beach at jaywick, as when i went as a child it was spotless, very sandy etc, but we couldnt take the kids on the beach at jaywick as it was trashed, broken glass, dog muck etc, so we spent most days at clacton. Couldnt belive the boatyard had gone, tho the new flats looked lovely. And The beach homes were falling down even more. Do they stil ldo the market at jaywick?

You might have heard about our accident then, we had a colesion with a 32LGV back in april. i have to say the locals were very friendly and took care of us well.

I'm really really hoping to get on a cruise (probably med.)in June or Sept.

We haven't had a proper holiday for 6 years, since before ds was born. In that time we have had one week s/c in Cornwall (BIL and his wife came too, they were right misery-gutss), and we had 3 days without ds in barcelona in 2002 for dh's 40th Birthday).

So we want a cruise for a proper sunny holiday, with a kids club, but no flights to worry about.

2 weeks in the Vendee in a caravan

We have done tents before so this year we feel that we will be in the lap of luxury as we will have walls and a toilet of our very own Woo Hoo!!!

happymerryberries · 02/01/2005 20:09

JanH, after years of paying an arm and a leg to go with Canvas, Keycamp etc (which are still good value imho) we bit the bullet and bought our own tent. The camp site we are on have a wonderful pool cmplex and park, and I have paid extra to hire a fridge and BBQ, but it is still peanuts compared to what we paid last year. With the moey we have saved we are going with Canvas to holland at easter (too cold to camp brrr!)

happymerryberries · 02/01/2005 20:09

Holly bet, I love the Vendee but we have gone the other way, from a caravan to our own tent!

JanH · 02/01/2005 20:11

I haven't been before, sg - they start late in November (something to do with Advent) and are held daily in the bigger towns and just at weekends in the small ones. My friend lives near Regensburg which has a daily one, but her own small town has a weekends-only one. This site lists all the markets with dates for next year for some, but the links don't appear to work atm.

There are several castles too which do themselves up like 3-D advent calendars with numbers in the windows. It all sounds fantastic - there is usually snow there too. I think your girls would love it!

The nearest airport to Regensburg is Nuremberg, which Air Berlin fly to from Stansted...I could ask her for some info for you if you like? Accommodation etc?

serenequeen · 02/01/2005 20:15

devon with friends in august - would like to do something at easter but haven't thought about it yet - will probably be too skint!

JanH · 02/01/2005 20:16

Oh yes hmb, now I remember, you were talking about this on one of the camping threads, weren't you? Hope you all have a fab time. How big's your tent? What kind of car do you have? The last time we did that our kids were aged between 12 and 1 and we had a people carrier plus a roof rack and even so there wasn't a spare inch of space!

We still might do it - I'm hoping to visit ggglimpopo and maybe fit in a bit of camping too, subject to space in the car and a very early booking with speedferries. (I notice eurotunnel seem to be a lot cheaper since they came on the scene?)

7M by 3, with three bed rooms and a central living area (a colorado 8 if you are a tent spod!) The kids will be 8 and 5 and I think that is about the best age tbh. We have gone in a caravan the last 2 years and they loved the area. I am hopeing that we will ge in a UK holiday in may during the half term week. I'm tied to the school holidays and this was a way of making sure we can get lots of holidays without breaking the bank. This summer holday will be £1000 cheaper than last years!

happymerryberries · 02/01/2005 20:21

Oh and we are getting a pd, have a monda and are a fashion free zone, I'm happy to slob in tee shirt and shorts so the clothing package is minimal IYSWIM

Hulababy · 02/01/2005 20:22

Been thinking about holidays more and quite fancy the idea of hiring a motor home somewhere in Europe. Reckon Dd would love it. Might only do it for a week, and then a second week (or start/end days) in hotel/B&B. I'll have to look into it more I guess. Maybe South France or Italy? Trouble is we have to go in school hols so lots of pennies I bet!

JanH · 02/01/2005 20:24

You could go to Aachen on Eurostar, how exciting would that be? Their link is working!

emmatmg · 02/01/2005 20:26

Booked it today actually.

Isle of wight. Same place and Caravan we stayed in last year.

A bargain too, £666 for 2 weeks in August.

Ds1+2 are excited already

happymerryberries · 02/01/2005 20:26

I have always wanted to tour the USA with the family in a big RV.....I am saving the pennies but hope to do it when dd is about 13

JanH · 02/01/2005 20:28

That was for scaltygirl again btw.

hmb, what is a pd? Have been musing but can't come up with anything intelligent. Hope you have got some some comfy chairs though - you can get tired of sitting on the ground! (Our new tent is a Vango Vista 800, I think it's similar to yours. We christened it at the summer party in Somerset, time it had a proper holiday )

kangasantamummy · 02/01/2005 20:29

we motorhomed around New Zealand for 6 weeks

It was Brill

happymerryberries · 02/01/2005 20:30

Sorry! Pod, on the top of the car! !

happymerryberries · 02/01/2005 20:32

We already have two chairs when we have used on the beach....my bottom is much to big to sit on the floor! We are getting a table and chairs folding set and have blow up beds for the kids and sleeping bags for all of us. I need a cooker and pans and a double matress and then we are sorted

We are going to Majorca for a week in August. We have gone the last 3 years and love it. We go to Alcudia in the North of the island. It is lovely, family friendly, the beach is lovely and it is cheap, cheap, cheap.

Hulababy · 02/01/2005 20:38

kanga - will start new thread to quiz you!

JanH · 02/01/2005 20:40

Oh, a pod - with you now, hmb!

You know you can get those director-ish camping chairs which fold four ways into a sort of stick arrangement? They are the most comfortable I have sat on - much nicer than a cheap folding garden chair - I think you should get one for you, even if nobody else gets one!

Also, the flock-covered "guest bed" mattresses which have their own battery operated pumps are far better than the ordinary rubber lilo kind. (You know you're worth it.)

happymerryberries · 02/01/2005 20:45

I'm ahread of you m'dear, always think of my comfort! The chairs we have even have a holder for your drink! How softie is that???? We are talking camping in comfort rather than the 'wipe your bum with leaves' sort that dh has done with the RAF! . And I have my eye on just the matress that you describe!

TBH I did dither about this as I like to have loo close to hand and then I did my sums, £1000 for 12 midnight pees? Nah!
