What pram to take on holiday (16 night cruise) bugaboo fox 5 or butterfly or both!

We are shortly going on a cruise round Italy and the Adriatic, lots of stops (12) with plenty of walking round cobbled streets etc. Our baby will be 6.5 months, we have the fox 5 and the butterfly. We partly bought the butterfly for use on this holiday as it’s smaller and more manoeuvrable but having tried it out the sun shade is not good, it’s pretty poor tbh and it’s not as comfy. We have the comfort travel bag for the fox 5 so could put it in the hold and use the butterfly in the airport as it’s overhead locker compatible and not planning on taking any other baby equipment as the cruise ship provides everything else so we could use our 2 items of baby equipment for the two prams.
If you’ve cruised before which pram would you take, the big comfy all terrain with great sun hood, or the lightweight easy to manoeuvre, fold down small for storage and small for sitting in cafes etc? Or would you take both? My mum thinks we are crazy to take both with all the other luggage, I’m worried about not having a pram in the airport but leaning towards the fox 5 if we only take 1.

Can you not use a sling while you are out and about? It seems like a push chair might be more hard work if it’s cobbled streets and steps

We could try a sling but he really hates being in it especially if he’s tired! I wouldn’t want to rely on being able to use one for all the walking about, we’re away (in the uk) at the moment and only have the fox with us, it’s been great and I’m now questioning why we bought the butterfly 🤣 we have used the sling once but I usually have it in the pram basket. We’ve tried 4 slings from the sling library so I think it’s the baby not the sling that’s the problem!

I would take the smallest folding.
Cruise rooms aren’t huge.

We have been on one with our Ds when he was around 2 years and we took babyzen yoyo. It only just fitted through cabin doors, no way would our mountain buggy fitted. Plus we also left it folded and hung on coat hook in room when not in use so it was out the way. In many restaurants in Italy when travelling we often have had to fold pram and put under table as no space.

inwoudl return the butterfly and get the babyzen personally. It’s lighter, folds smaller, and has been great. Ds used in May 2 weeks when we travelled and he’s now 4 and tall and he still fitted fine in it for 4am naps at airports

Thanks @Caspianberg i didn’t know about the restaurants in Italy, we’ve done a few cruises and I’d worried about the doorways etc, the pram will store under the bed where the suitcases go, so storage shouldn’t be a problem.
We can’t return the butterfly as been using it for a month or so and it’s been fab round shops and on the train/bus. The baby and I tried all the prams out in the shop including the baby zen and his favourite was the butterfly (he snuggled into it 🙄), it appeared more padded than all the others and although the fold is slightly bigger it was the only one that was one handed (and much easier). The two downsides were it doesn’t lie completely flat - we tried a silver cross that did but the baby didn’t like it as much and it was tricky to fold and the hood but I convinced myself the hood would be fine. I think I just need to get a bigger clip on canopy. The hood is a fine size but the mesh extension is directly above the baby’s head when reclined and it’s not spf.
Argh I really don’t know, they both have such different pros and cons, but I guess that’s why you have 2 prams! If he was older and walking I’d totally just take the butterfly.

I certainly wouldn’t take two prams. The cabins aren’t big enough to store two!

i would go for the smaller one and look for a sun umbrella or similar that will fit on it.

Caspianberg · 05/06/2024 08:07

Just use the smaller one then. It will be fine. You can add an extra shade if you really need but tbh if it’s really hot and Sunny with baby you tend to avoid walks in midday sun.

I also worried about ours, as under 1 Ds was parent facing etc in main pram at home, with large wheels, etc. but honestly the travel prams are fine for the convenience and size. Ours has been used all over on cobble stones, small villages, even snow.

I would definitely use a sling. Some ports have tenders too which would make a pram difficult. Destinations tend to be old cobbled steers

Can you get a sun umbrella that attaches?
