Barcelona city break - worth booking a transfer

In the early stages of booking a city break to Barcelona next year, flights and hotel with jet 2, hotel I'm considering is in the Eixample district, haven't been since I was a child, noticed there was an option to book a transfer for £150 just wondering if it's worth doing, Googling suggests not but wanted real life opinions if I may please

Check where the nearest metro is to the hotel - there is both a train station and metro station at El Prat airport.

Johnhasalongmoustache · 04/06/2024 07:05

go on TikTok and search there

I caught the train straight into the city centre, was very simple, fast and cheap.

I've been to Barcelona loads of times and never ever booked a transfer. I normally get the airport bus which is pretty fast and frequent. Or if I can't be arsed, then a taxi from the rank outside. If you've not got much luggage the airport bus stops in Placa Cataluna which should be pretty close to your hotel - check on google maps - if not you can get a metro from there anyway. Depends really on what time of day your flight lands and departs. If it's in the middle of the night I'd go for a cab.

There are shuttle buses that take you right into the city, I wouldn't book a transfer.

Sallysoup · 04/06/2024 07:14

How many people and bags is that for? It seems very expensive. A standard taxi will be around 30-40€ and should take 25 mins. We were unlucky and hit bad traffic, took a long detour when the motorway shut and it still only cost 55€. On the way back we used the metro which cost a couple of euro at most.

larkstar · 04/06/2024 07:15

I caught the bus to Placa Catalunya - it had wifi on board - It was really easy to find the bus and identify which one to get on. I think Google maps told me which bus to catch.

No. That's a complete waste of £150. Just get the train and the metro. Or taxi from the train station. Like a lot of European cities, Barcelona is very very easy to travel around. You can get a multi use travel card for the metro for far less than £150

imustbeanidiot · 04/06/2024 07:21

Omg €150??!! Noooooo, I was just there in April, book online for the Aerobus transfers, a return ticket is around €13 pp

Takes you right into the centre, and you'll easily walk to your hotel from there.

storminabuttercup · 04/06/2024 07:21

Brilliant thanks all. Will be 3 people, 3 medium suitcases. All capable of wheeling those, will not bother with the transfer. This is our first break like this so a bit out of my comfort zone so appreciate the help.

And yes use the metro to get around once you get there, it's excellent

Brooklyn70 · 04/06/2024 07:22

What area of the Exaimple?

I just stayed literally across the road from Casa Mila (amazing apartments by the way, Suites Avenue) and it’s a 10 minute walk from the bus at Plaza Catalonia.

£150 is an insane amount of money to charge for airport transfers to Barcelona.

storminabuttercup · 04/06/2024 07:33

The hotel I'm considering is near to Urgell metro stop looking at the maps. As you can prob tell I've a lot of research to do!

I think prebooked transfers are so expensive. We went to Boston last year and they wanted £100 or more - sure it was only about $25 in a taxi!

yikesanotherbooboo · 04/06/2024 07:37

The bus is very easy and takes you right in to town . No need for car transfer.

I did this….simples

Bjorkdidit · 04/06/2024 08:00

For £150 I'd expect a chauffeur driven limousine with full service of driver putting my case in and out of the boot and opening the car doors for me Smile

Sounds like its priced like 'we don't really want to do this so if you choose it you'll pay handsomely for it'.

But I understand how you feel. We've also been on a Jet2 city break package to Barcelona and I remember getting totally overwhelmed with overthinking all the options but everything will be totally fine, honestly. I do remember we walked miles, but that's part of the fun, just wander around and see things and if you end up too far from your hotel or a specific place you want to be, just get on the Metro Smile

Brooklyn70 · 04/06/2024 08:14

@storminabuttercup , the bus actually stops at Urgell

  1. Airport, T1
  2. Plaça España
  3. Gran Via - Urgell
  4. Plaça Universitat
  5. Plaça de Catalunya (City Centre).
wonderingwhatsnext · 04/06/2024 08:18

Download the city mapper app for when you get there. It's invaluable.

storminabuttercup · 04/06/2024 08:24

This is all so helpful. I'm a natural worrier and planner (it's next summer we're planning on going) so I'll have it all planned out by the time we go, I just spotted the bus goes there so that's a great option. I'm so grateful for the helpful advice. I'll be back no doubt over the next 12 months for more 😀
