Food into airport?

Hi, for some reason I believed that you can't take food through airport security, but my friend informed me that you still can. Is this the case? Family holiday to Spain in the summer and flying from Manchester so ideally want to take packed lunches onto the planw but want to save on airport food ££££

I do. Manchester.

Sunnysummer24 · 30/05/2024 20:04

Yes, but not liquids eg yoghurt unless they have the new scanner at Manchester.

We normally just buy a boots meal deal now but previously needing to catering allergy I’ve done packed lunch.

Yes, you can take it onto the plane. What you can’t do is take it into your destination country.

AutumnLeaves5 · 30/05/2024 20:04

Yes but you probably have to eat it (for fresh/unpackaged food) before you try to go through customs when you land. A lot of countries don’t allow you to take food in but you can definitely take a pack up to eat on the plane!

Also, I did once wrap my rolls in tinfoil and there did seem to be a bit of consternation when my hand-baggage went through the scanner so probably best to wrap in cling film.

Yes, you can. The security restrictions are on liquids, pastes & gels, not food. So you can take your meal deal sandwich, crisps & chocolate through but not your drink.

Fab, thank you everyone! :)

In practice you can take almost anything into Spain too. It's not like Australia where they will fine you for taking an apple off the plane. And the chances of a family going on holiday having their bags inspected on arrival are pretty much zero anyway (but maybe don't take the 5kg of fresh bushmeat).

They were doing spot checks into Spain and Spanish islands last summer and they were confiscating everything.

As others said, no liquids but dry food is possible.

You can't bring dairy, plant or plant products, honey or meat into the EU. So better consumate everything on the plane.
