Can anyone advise please?
I eant to book room only in Malta.
3 adults will need basic breakfast & lunch (bread, cheese & fruit on the go). Dinner: basic pasta dish. Say Allow for 3 Ice cream, 3 coffees, 3 beers per day (3 adults). Can anyone give a budget?

Sounds a bit .... spartan, for a holiday!

I think I'd go somewhere cheaper where your money would go further.

You're probably looking at 100 euros a day for that.

Self catering?
Regardless food on Malta is very expensive.

Which area are you staying as it can vary quite heavily?

I certainly don’t think it’s cheap but I’m not sure I’d agree it’s very expensive, there are a vast range of places to choose from with different budgets.

Are you self catering and cook dinner in the room maybe?

Malta is expensive pretty much looking same as it would cost in pounds

I've been to Malta a few times and never found it expensive. Eating out is a little cheaper, alcohol is much cheaper.

We also found portions quite large and learned to only order starters of pasta because if we ordered a starter and a main, the starter alone filled us up and we could have not bothered with the main.

Many supermarkets and convenience stores weren't great, but I remember there's a Lidl, which was cheap like it is here.

But make sure you book self catering, not room only, otherwise you won't have any facilities to prepare or serve food, but you might get a fridge to store drinks and a bit of food.

If you're wanting to cut the cost, I'd not bother with either the coffee or the ice cream, or get the ice cream from a supermarket not a ice cream shop.

Not self catering unfortunately, no. Needs to be Malta (family connection). Spartan is fine. 2 people have ASD & this is what they will want but I want to have enough for plenty of ice cream, coffee, juice etc & this is where it can add up rather. I did look at an AI (earlier this year) but it worked out about £175/day & rather tied you to the hotel.
Looking at Sliema (Waterfront hotel)

There's also quite a few 'pasty shops' (sorry can't remember what they're called) where you can get a substantial snack quite cheaply.

I went there for work a few years ago, and because I was quite skint and my work was paying me a fixed daily budget that it didn't matter whether or not I used it, some days I just had a couple of those pasties, which were delicious and saved the money I hadn't spent.

@Bjorkdidit - thanks- that's really helpful.

I've found a cheap deal on a nice hotel in the perfect place (room only, but should have minibar fridge for keeping tiny drinks cool?). The opportunity cost of that is that we 'eat out' but modestly. So, if I can access a Lidl type store, chilled coffee /juice, pastries brekkie say £15. Lunch bits £15. Dinner: £20 p/p. £10 ices. Its tight but do-able. I can take a card for 'extras' but will try to stick to that.
