Where would you go if you could go anywhere?

Our family are in the extremely lucky position that we have accrued enough air miles that we can afford to fly pretty much anywhere in the world for our next holiday. It’ll be my partner and I plus our 1 & 3 year old girls. Where would you go? Looking for somewhere that would be fun with toddlers. We want there to be plenty to do but not too stressful with little ones. Would love suggestions please.

(I ought to add that our girls are pretty boisterous, they both love to run off, climb on things, put things in their mouth etc. I don’t have high hopes of much relaxing but still keen to travel)

Colorado to see my cousin.

One and three is quite young.
Do you like family resort type of places?

I would exclude anything that has a lot of museums, city walking etc. as three year old will be super bored and annoying. Also it will be no benefit for them so just stress.
I'd go to sandy beach with solid family oriented entertainment for toddlers and restaurants.
You can let them eat sand and drag inflatable toys half a day and chill half a day if they have bars with inflatable castles or baby parks/pools.

I never loved long haul with little ones. I agree beach holidays. French Riviera, Amalfitana, Balearics would be my choice but maybe that's not so good when the freebie is the miles!

We visited New Zealand, Malaysia and Vietnam with kids aged 1-5.
Definitely not relaxing but fabulous nonetheless.
What's on your bucket list?
Will you have the chance again in the future?
If so, target places that are rubbish in the UK summer. Save those for once kids are at school.

Thailand is very child friendly.

Thanks, we’ve actually never done a resort type holiday. Do you know any good toddler friendly resorts?
Agreed, definitely not going for the city break experience.

Good shout!

We both traveled round Malaysia, New Zealand and Vietnam in our twenties so feels like we should try somewhere new but somewhere similar would be fun. Maybe Philippines or Japan…

@Lersterday Sri Lanka south and west are great in UK winter (east for our summer).

Have you been watching race across the world? Japan to Bali - great for inspiration.

We have just been to South Africa with 3 under 5. Had a great time. Also advantage of no jet lag for the children as its on the some time zone with night flights

No jet lag sounds ideal! Whereabouts did you go? What kind of things did you do with the kids? Would love to hear more.

Whereabouts in Thailand would you go? I think all the places I have been would be difficult with little ones but I’ve never been with kids.

@Lersterday entirely depends on the weather!

DS is 6, he’s been to Khao Lak, Phuket, Bangkok and Hua Hin so far. First two at 18m, second two aged 4.

Mauritius!! The all inclusive resorts are incredible family friendly and toddler friendly while still feeling luxe. We stayed at a beachcomber one and they had kids clubs, lots of activities you could join like biking, hiking, boat tours, little paddle boards for babies etc. But it seemed all the big hotel brands were very kid friendly while also having nice spas and adult things to do if you wanted to some R&R. Think it's just because there's so much space. My niece who was 3 at the time we went loved it particularly the giant turtles.

We spent 8 days in Cape Town, stayed in an Air BnB in camps bay. From here we did table mountain (on the cable car), boulders bay to see the penguins, V and A waterfront (lovely feel with lots of playgrounds and did a boat trip), Green point and blue train park, steam train ride, Cape Point and bird land.

Then went onto the wine vineyards for 4 nights. We did the wine tram which I highly recommend. The big vineyards have lots of children's activities at them- playgrounds (sometimes supervised by baby sitters), tractor rides, farms, splash park for example. We loved trying some wines whilst watching our children playing on the playgrounds with supervision of the baby sitters. My 5 year old loved the children's "wine tasting" (juice and sweet tasting).

We found everywhere really child friendly with playgrounds around every corner (although health and safety not quite like the UK).

Just back from Japan with teens. I wouldn't have chosen to go with toddlers..

Newgirls · 05/06/2024 17:51

I’d still want to keep the flight time short so maybe pick somewhere lovely like Greece? Save the air miles for when you can do longer flights?
