Campervan holiday luxuries

If you had £100 to spend on making a budget holiday a little bit more luxurious, what would you buy?!

Money is tight and we are going on a haven style holiday. Campervan will be very basic. What could I buy/bring to make it feel a bit more holiday-esque?

So far I’ve thought of some nice gin and some fancy plastic garden gin glasses, and maybe a nice throw for the sofa.

Any ideas/tips would be very appreciated!

Fairy lights!

Are you going in your own camper van or hiring a caravan?

We’re hiring one for a long weekend!

Just realised I wrote campervan but I mean CARAVAN 😂

I'd spend the money on eating out off site a couple of times. Definitely where I'd choose to spend.

If it's a caravan then:

Nice coffee for the mornings - we're camping & like the kenco cappuccino sachets.

A Waitrose/m&s ready meal if you're self catering. Also like the M&S tubs of brownies, flap jacks etc to snack on.

Nice hand soap/scented candles

Your own pillows & towels

Wine/prosecco glasses if you drink these as I hate the ones they provide!

Magazines (games like beetle, top trumps, draughts etc if you have kids) in case it rains & you're stuck inside.

HurdyGurdy19 · 28/05/2024 11:44

If bedding is provided, I'd take your own, as I've always found the provided bed linen to be very starchy and not nice to sleep on. And I alaays take my own pillows 😀

Really nice shower gel

Cookiecoop · 28/05/2024 12:04

These are brilliant suggestions so far, thank you

Unless you need a throw and plastic glasses for home use I wouldn't buy them to take to a caravan.

Pack a bath mat - they aren't always provided. Also take a sharp knife, cooking oil, salt, pepper and any ketchup/sauces you use.

Use the duvets off the beds to snuggle under while watching TV.

I'd put the money towards a couple of takeaways or meals out, and crabbing gear for the kids (smokey bacon is the best bait).

Milton tablets for disinfecting kitchen items before you use them.

I spend the cash on a food shop of lovely easy things that can be thrown in the oven.

Like OnlyFrench I always take really luxurious shower gel/soap/shampoo when camping it really elevates the experience. I also suggest ready mixed cocktails and a lovely blanket.

sharp knife and frying pan I take from home. I always prefer slippers in rented holiday home.

this little cheese board from marks/ocado is delicious (pictured) Some crackers, fig jam, grapes, nut mix will make a lovely treat.

id consider a cheap coffee pod machine and have coffees/cappuccinos/hot chocolates. You can always sell on Facebook market place after (or look for 2nd hand one before you go)

then you can get brandy or amaretto and top up your hot drinks. Take away cups and you can take them with you on day trips.

like you I do like taking a throw on holiday. A teddy each for the kids if you are going with kids . I normally try and get in before them to put them on the bed as a gift from the house - that fills the toys up with nostalgia and memories.

this is the machine we have (we use the Kenco Americano XL pods, available at Tesco). I do take it away on uk trips but there’s an even cheaper brand available on amazon. Not all pods work in all machines

15 bottles of wine

longdistanceclaraclara · 28/05/2024 18:24

Proper knife and chopping board, if you are planning on cooking. They're usually glass imo and I cannot bear glass chopping boards.

Wine and gin.

Own pillows.

I always take a cafetière and decent coffee.

GerardWay123 · 28/05/2024 18:44

I always take my favourite sharp knife. I do worry that if the police pull us over they will wonder why the hell it's in the car.
