European Christmas/New Year City Break suggestions?

Hello, am looking to book a European city break between Christmas and over New Year. Have done a few city breaks, sometimes at new year or in the summer - Brussels, Madrid, Jerez, Toledo, Warsaw, Krakow, Zabreb, Split, Seville, Sofia, Porto, Braga..................where next?
Considering Riga or Vilinus or possibly somewhere else in Spain - Valencia?? Any other recommendations?

Thank you

Valencia is a lovely city, great food and a nice beach.

I enjoyed Riga and Vilnius too, although I think I’m not good enough at the cold to do so at New Years!

In Spain there are lots of good city break options - Barcelona of course, but I’d also recommend Palma, San Sebastián, Bilbao, Malaga, Granada, Cordoba.

What kind of things do you like from a city break? Might help guide the recommendations

We've been to Barcelona during the Xmas/ New Year season and I wouldn't recommend it! Because they are a Catholic city so much was closed for all the different religious days which fall in that period (including cafés, restaurants, museums, shops). The city was nice to walk around but I feel we missed out on the Barcelona vibe (which we have experienced since when visiting at a non religious time of year).

Thanks for your replies - we like good food, a few drinks, architecture, history.
I think the cold weather is putting me off Riga and Vilnius (although it is very very cheap!)

Vienna is lovely

Palma (Majorca) puts on a good show at Christmas and New Year. Daily high is around 16°. Riga and Vilnius will be bitterly cold and also lacking in daylight (similar latitude to Newcastle/Glasgow).

We spent Christmas in Innsbruck once and it was magical. Flights are cheap with Easyjet. Absolutely delicious food at the restaurant at Bergisel Ski Jump, stunning views from up there. Neuschwanstein Castle and the cable car up Zugspitze for day trips. There's a mountain zoo, a casino.... Highly recommend it!

We did a trip to Vilnius for NYE, then onto Riga and Talinn by car. It was amazing. Snowy and dark of course, but that added to the seasonal charm. We stayed in wonderful hotels and did a great mix of cultural and restful activities eg galleries,
concerts, saunas etc. Would highly recommend for this time of year. Was one of our best-ever road trips!

BTW it’s not that cheap if you stay in good hotels and eat at well-regarded restaurants!

Prague but it's very cold!

I’ve been to Budapest, Stockholm, Prague and Paris either just after Christmas or for the new year and they were all good. I was fortunate and had cold sunny weather each time which was perfect for walking around. I did boat trips in all four locations which I enjoyed.

Thanks for your suggestions. I am currently thinking between Valencia or Vilinus but cannot decide which!! Quite different places I know.
