We do, find its the best for us.

brittanyfairies · 26/05/2024 17:29

Yeah, it's great. No exchange fees Monday to Friday, a good rate of exchange. Very easy, very convenient. I am a big fan

Glenthebattleostrich · 26/05/2024 17:30

yes we love it, good rate and easy to top up

I wouldn’t use it anywhere else!

HappierTimesAhead · 26/05/2024 17:33

We have previously used but had some issues with paying so we have now been using the Chase card which does the same thing (but has been more reliable)

AgMaggy · 26/05/2024 17:34

Yes, had no issues. I always use the card I have in my phone wallet which is so handy. App is fab too.

Tequilamockinbird · 26/05/2024 17:37

Yes we always use Revolut across Europe and the states. No issues at all and perfect exchange rates as they use the interbank rate

Yoyooo · 26/05/2024 17:38

Is it alot better than monzo for abroad?

WayMeanWood · 26/05/2024 17:40

Yes, used it extensively, never had an issue, I tend to use my phone but have used my card too. Also use it to transfer to family abroad too, when my son was studying in France we transferred a monthly amount in Euros and he used Revolut all the time for a year.

Great at splitting bills too!

Mintyt · 26/05/2024 17:40

Thank you. I'm going to load it up, thanks. I have Monzo too. Only got Resolut so my daughter could get the cash bonus

I agree. Monzo is very hit and miss as to whether the transaction will be declined. Once declined the payment can show as pending for up to 30 days before the balance is restored.

Sorry to jump on this thread but how does this work? I know that sounds stupid but I have never been on holiday as an adult so this is my first time having to sort out currency exchange etc. the travel agent told me about mastercard they do which I was going to look into nearer the time but this sounds like it could be better. I'm absolutely clueless on the best way to take money.

Bjorkdidit · 26/05/2024 17:46

No, Chase, Kroo and Starling are better.

Chase gives cashback on purchases
Kroo pays 4.35% interest on your balance
Starling has no particular advantages but none of them charge exchange fees at the weekend like Revolut does and all are covered by UK banking protection, while Revolut isn't.

I can't see any reason to use Revolut over one of the above three.

Just open one of the accounts I've mentioned, put some money in it and use it just like your debit card at home, except when offered the choice of UK£ and local currency, pick local, so the retailer/ATM doesn't load the exchange rate in their favour.

I was in Sri-Lanka in Feb and had loads of problems with Revolut, swore I would never use it again. Kept getting declined when trying to use it in hotels, could only draw cash out here and there some ATMs would decline and some no problem. It ended up costing me a lot of money as I was paying for the hotels as we went and ended up having to transfer the money back to my TSB account meaning I incurred fees. First and last time I will ever use Revolut.

katmarie · 27/05/2024 18:17

I opened a revolut account to use in florida, and had no major problems with it. The first couple of transactions were declined initially, but allowed through after I confirmed on the app it was me. The app is very user friendly, and the card worked with pin and contactless, so was ideal really.

There are a lot of cards you can get, that all work more or less the same way. You load money onto them and you then use them on holiday the same way as a credit card.

However, the ones you get from travel agents and the Post Office give you a poor exchange rate. Revolut's rate is usually three or four pence in the pound better.

I saw a card offered by a travel agent recently that gave you a tenner or something for signing up. But the rate was so poor that by the time you'd spent £200 your tenner was eaten up and would have been better off getting a Revolut card in the first place.

But as PPs have said, Kroo, Monzo etc give you a favourable rate nowadays too.
