Book wherever YOU like. Your baby won’t care at that age.

Make sure you have some space other than the bedroom to sit in when your baby is asleep.

Make sure you take enough calpol, ibruprofen to sink a ship

Never thought of that way 😂 im sure she won't care.
Im an overthinker and I've got into my head it will be really difficult but people go on holiday all the time with babies so I'm sure it will be fine.

Why @moleeye ? We took DS to Spain, France and Norway in his first year. Never needed it.

MinnieMountain · 23/05/2024 18:45

Toddlers is the difficult age. Go where you like before that 😄

Why?? All the travel I’ve done with mine and I bought it once from a french pharmacy when DS starting teething. Never once regretted not packing it.

OP, 6 months is a great age to travel. Go wherever you want, it’ll be the last time for 18 years where you don’t have to think family friendly activities. Take full advantage of having a non mobile baby that can’t express any opinions!

Short flight & all inclusive. We went to Benalamadena when my DD was small. Short flight & transfer

ChanWork · 23/05/2024 18:53

Short, day time flight. Nothing worse than landing at 11pm with a tired, cranky child.
Majorca is great for families

Mindymomo · 23/05/2024 18:57

We went to Minorca when my DS was just one, flight was short, although my mistake was hoping he would sleep on plane as he loved his afternoon sleep. Unfortunately as you have to have infant on your lap, in an aisle seat, he went to sleep just after take off, but air steward bumped into him and woke him up and he wasn’t happy. We had some lovely long lunches by the pool and a buffet evening meal with nighttime entertainment that he loved.

WonkyBricks · 23/05/2024 19:08

We did the Italian lakes with a baby and older child. Flight was fine (just BF a lot) but the Baby did not sleep for longer than 2 hours the entire week, absolutely hated the travel cot. Would nap but only on me (sweaty). Not sure it was worth the effort Tbh. We did Amsterdam with our eldest when they were 4 months old and that was similar, should have learnt from our mistake first time round 🤣

Deffo. As a young child I used to get terrible ear ache from the changes in air pressure on flights, that sometimes lasted for days after landing and once developed into a full on ear infection (had to be taken to hospital in Florida)

mitogoshi · 23/05/2024 19:23

Go wherever you fancy, babies are really portable. I did a 2000 mile road trip at 5 months which was brilliant

Sunshineclouds11 · 23/05/2024 19:24

Short flight time
Short transfer
Good flight times

Babies are so much easier than toddlers! So enjoy it whilst they aren't mobile.

Snooze shade
Agree with plenty painkillers
If she has a dummy, take plenty very easily lost
I ordered formula, nappies, cream and some food pouches and snacks at boots at the airport to pick up once through security.
Obv means more hand luggage (doesn't count in weight) but we only had my handbag and bag for the baby to carry so was fine.

Once there, get an inflatable little boat, we filled it with pool water and put it under the umbrella. He loved it.

Don't expect her routine to be the same on holiday, go with the flow, she will probably sleep more. My DS slotted straight back into his once home.

ShyGreyFinch · 24/05/2024 01:21

Thank you all. Will try to stop worrying and just get it booked ☀️

Just remember that if you are further south in the summer then it will be hot, so plan for time out of the worst of the heat and be mindful of keeping your child protected by shade and sun cream. Enjoy cooler evening strolls.

It can work really well if you are relaxed and flexible.

Take the weather into account, I wouldn't go anywhere hot in Summer, maybe stick to mid to high Twenties.

I had a baby who hated sleeping for longer stretches in her pram, so no way we could have fed her, put in a pram, going for dinner and drinks while she slept. We very much preferred s/c, going out during the day, lazy lunch and then just a small dinner in the villa, DD in bed and we at the terrace with drinks and snacks. Worked a lot better for us.

Get a good travel insurance, stock up on basic first aid. But I found that pharmacies/doctors in resort areas do speak English, I had to use one thanks to a sinus infection, but you don't want ot run out at 7am after a night up with an ill baby.
