July 2025 wow holiday with 4 teen boys?

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 21/05/2024 09:03

Looking to do possible “last” family holiday next year before boys go off to uni etc

19,18, 16,13.

Open to anything really, although it needs to be warm (least 25 for me)

Ive thought Florida keys, South Africa, Vietnam, Asia etc… other budget isn’t a major issue I’m thinking east might see better value for money and offer a more luxurious experience (me) plus totally different culture (them)

mix of beach, cities and adventure (them). Probably 2 weeks max unfortunately

Any ideas appreciated thanks

Canada? Costa Rica?

sashh · 21/05/2024 10:14

South Africa it will be winter.

What kind of thing do the boys like to do?

New Zealand has lots of outdoorsy things, but again it will be winter.

Japan?

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 21/05/2024 11:39

Yes has seen weather not favourable in SA although slightly better than Scotland 😂

they like playing PlayStation and fighting with each other mostly. Interspersed with TikTok 😂

outdoor things would appeal, go keying, rafting, high wire assault courses. Also happy chilling and playing football.

Costa Rica is on my bucket list but maybe as a 2 rather than a 6 due to exchange rate etc

California road trip

BestsellingWine · 21/05/2024 11:50

I think Asia. Thailand perhaps. Have you watched this series of Race across the World? Watch it with your dc and see which bits they fancy. If you want a beach then the islands on the east coast will be best in our summer. Koh Samui, Kho Tao etc

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 21/05/2024 12:55

Cuba - go to Havana, Trinidad and a week at an all inclusive with lots of activities too

TakeOnFlea · 21/05/2024 13:00

Singapore!

Pottingup · 21/05/2024 13:06

We went to Malaysia with my teen boys. Time in lovely hotel in Kuala Lumpur with amazing food and visit to the monkey temple and day trip to elephant sanctuary. Then trip to an island to learn to dive/see turtles. Then to the jungle which included some white water rafting. Then trip to Penang for more temples and food/lovely hotel.
I have found that they seem quite keen to keep coming on holiday with us into their 20’s though if we’re paying!

SilkFloss · 21/05/2024 13:09

Outdoor pursuit activities in the French Alps.
We went about ten years ago with two other families when all the kids were mid-late teens. Was brilliant - white-water rafting, mountain bike trails, waterfall-climbing, paragliding, hiking, swimming etc...

isthismylifenow · 21/05/2024 13:13

Although it is winter in SA, you can still do a safari type holiday. Cape Town is very wet in winter so that may not be the best option.

But Kruger is a good option. Its dry season so it more than likely won't rain. It will be cool on morning and evening game drives, but it gets to mid 20s in the day in winter.

You say budget is not an issue, so then you could look to fly to KwaZuluNatal as a secondary part to the trip. Very mild winters on the KZN coast. Look at Sodwana Bay coast up to the Moz border, Kozi Bay.

Watched every single episode. Ds and I keep joking about applying.

When you say budget isn’t a major issue, is it possible to give a rough guide? I only ask because “not an issue” could mean £8k or £20k!

I love South Africa, but doesn’t sound right for the time of year, Cape Town is just fabulous so I’d go in winter, plus there are lots of adult focused activities such as wine tasting which are truly spectacular, safaris also tend to be more adult focused.

Florida keys is £££ and your kids would probably also want to do Busch gardens/universal.

Vietnam/Thailand are not great at that time of year, although Thailand is fab for kids of that age, plus you can get luxury hotels for a reasonable price. If you’re going to do that would suggest twinning with Singapore which has loads to do and a universal studios.

Just be aware that Cuba prevents you getting an ESTA for the USA so you’ll need a full visa afterwards. We personally didn’t like Cuba, there’s better places in the Caribbean IMO!

Have you thought about a Caribbean cruise? If you can afford a suite on one of the big ships you’d get the luxury you want, plus loads of activities. That could be twinned with Miami/orlando/forida keys.

mitogoshi · 21/05/2024 14:10

Sri Lanka might be a good option, there's culture, safari options, and decent surfing, swimming, walking in the mountains etc but you money will go a decent way, not ultra cheap but affordable once there

Miracleasap · 21/05/2024 14:11

Mexico

Could do £20k I think. Flights and hotels and major expenses.

We did some great family adventure trips with Explore and Exodus when boys were older teens.

No cheap but really glad we did those "last" holidays.

Florida keys was in my list, I really think they would love. DP venomously against cruise. 😂

Asia - Thailand, lots of great things to do and visit plus fab beaches.

aplthtoa · 21/05/2024 16:28

California road trip would fit that well, it's at the top of my boys' travel wish list.

YorkNew · 21/05/2024 17:27

I’m just back from New York with my adult DC on one of their numerous ‘last holidays’.
