Ill DD on holiday

Currently in Majorca and not due back for a few more days.
As soon as we got here (literally the start of our coach transfer), DD (1) turned really sleepy which is not like her at all. She’d been fine up until then.
The first couple of days / nights she just wanted to be held by me and to sleep but then was really unsettled in the night. She adores water but was screaming anytime even a splash of water went near her so one of us has had to sit with her in the shade, on the sun lounger all day.
We got the hotel to arrange a Dr to visit; she examined her and prescribed us some antibiotics, a nasal spray and some rehydration sachets saying she thought it was a respiratory type infection. We’ve been getting fluid into her but she’s not very keen on eating and is struggling to walk properly, whereas at home she was flying with her walking.
She seemed much brighter after the antibiotics for a couple of days and was able to stay awake, we were getting a few smiles and interaction and she was walking about with help.
Today she’s woken up with a rash everywhere (it blanches) and has been back to being thoroughly miserable - crying on and off all day long and sleeping. DD also has CMPA (symptoms are a rash and screaming for hours) although we’ve been following all the allergy advice on food.
She has also had a rash very similar before where it stopped blanching and we had to rush her to A&E for blood tests.

I’m waffling but the point I’m trying to get at is, are we stuck here until the holiday ends or is there a way to come home earlier? It’s been the most miserable holiday and so stressful/worrisome for DD and what’s actually wrong.

hand foot and nose
very common on holiday
and can make you feel rough and poorly and runny nose

lentilloved · 12/05/2024 16:41

back to doc again with the rash

WhySoManySocks · 12/05/2024 16:41

I’m sorry, that sounds stressful.

If I was you, I would look for tickets back as soon as possible, and expect it to be expensive but worth it.

lentilloved · 12/05/2024 16:41

the key question is

do you have travel insurance

bluecomputerscreen · 12/05/2024 16:42

speak to your insurance. they might want the opinion of a dr.

hope your dd is better soon!

HappierTimesAhead · 12/05/2024 16:43

Sorry OP, how stressful for you. Of course you just want to be home. Is your daughter well enough to travel?

Overthebow · 12/05/2024 16:46

Arrange to see the doctor again and also contact your travel insurance.

CormorantStrikesBack · 12/05/2024 16:46

You need to be seen again since the rash has appeared as you may well need a letter for flying. Plus to make sure it’s not contagious

sparklestar123 · 12/05/2024 16:53

Thanks all - it’s her first holiday and we have 4 year old DS with us who’s having a great time but obviously not getting the 100% experience I hoped they’d both get!
It’s been stressful enough as there’s not a huge amount she can eat anyway without this on top bless her, although DH apparently didn’t realise young children can’t eat swordfish and gave her a tiny portion last night whilst I was busy sorting DS’s food!

Yes, we have travel insurance. Sorry if I sound woe is me, the main thing obviously is her being well and it’s just so stressful that we’re not home with ‘our’ Dr and really close to the hospital if needed, obviously the language barrier too.
She’s currently sleeping on DH, she’s already had a long nap on us today and usually just has a small PM nap.

Wow I never knew about swordfish! I know not the point of the thread but you learn something everyday!

CormorantStrikesBack · 12/05/2024 16:57

Bless her, sorry the holiday isn’t great. To be honest she will feel as poorly at home I guess. Have you got calpol, etc? Dose her up and let her snooze. I know you just want to be home but maybe she might be better off resting a couple more days before travelling? Take it in turns taking ds out?

sparklestar123 · 12/05/2024 17:01

Yes, we’ve got calpol, brought some away with us just as a precaution, didn’t realise how much we’d need it! She kept spiking with a temp over the first few days as well. Dr didn’t prescribe any further as she said ours is stronger than theirs.
She’s finished her course of rehydration sachets and has some antibiotics left to take. So awful seeing her like this as she would absolutely have loved all of it under normal circumstances.

@Flatleak I mean if it helped that’s something ha!
I only twigged as I remembered it being something you’re told not to have when pregnant.

Do you best and don't worry about what she's missing. Friends of mine limited where they went throughout their kids childhood as they always had to see a doctor.
My own kids had a Christmas at Disney, where everyone in turn got a stomach bug.

ProfessorPeppy · 12/05/2024 17:10

Sorry, meant to say could it be this?

catlady7 · 12/05/2024 17:13

I hope she's better soon x

Vinvertebrate · 12/05/2024 17:13

Tbh with it being short-haul I’d just look for a flight. It’s miserable being poorly away from home. Hope she’s on the mend soon.

Twilightstarbright · 13/05/2024 07:41

Sympathies OP. DS had pneumonia in Tenerife one year and it was a shit holiday- although the doctors were incredible and probably even better care than we would have got at home. Hope she improves soon.
