Booking last minute flights to Italy (Naples)

I want to book a week away in Naples for this time next year. When I look at flights for this now I’m getting £400.

However! If I look at booking a flight next week it’s literally half the price at £200 return!

Is it worth the risk in waiting until next year to book? Bearing in mind we’d need to book accommodation now (we like to book unusual airb&bs which sell out quickly)

Surprised you can book so far in advance. I would book accommodation (with cancellation options) and keep an eye/set an alert on flights.

What airline can you book a year in advance?

Which airline? In my experience (which is mostly Ryanair) prices go up and down, if people are booking prices go up, and if bookings are slow then prices go down. They often don't drop much until you get quite a bit closer to the departure date, and if Naples proves popular for May 2025 they may not fall as low as they are priced this year. You could pick some random dates for Naples flights that are 2 or 3 months from now and monitor what happens to the prices over the next 2 months, just to give you an idea of if/how the prices fluctuate and then decide whether to book or wait it out. We did Naples over Easter 2023, and paid about £200/person for the return flights.
I've got some good bargains this year, but sometimes you need nerves of steel to get the best prices! For example, we went to Malta over Easter in the school hols. With Easter being early this year, the airline switched from it's winter to summer schedule whilst we planned to be away (we went out in March and came back in April), and the summer flights seemed to be released really late, so the pricing was a bit inconsistent. When Ryanair finally released the summer flights they were priced at £99 per person for aone-way flight Malta to the UK. I booked the outbound flight for £39/person on 20th Jan, I was initially planning to book a return but found the inbound flight was pretty empty (based on seat reservations) despite being quite expensive, so I booked it as a one-way trip. I then monitored the return flights obsessively for 3 weeks, watched the price rise to £150 per person (scary) and then it started to fall a little, and then suddenly it dropped to £40/person and I snapped up 4 seats. I saved myself more than £250 by waiting it out, but I gave myself more than 3 weeks of stress which wasn't fun.

Never use Ryanair. BA flights are 11 months in advance. So you just have to wait a bit to see what prices are but they fluctuate on demand. Midweek might be cheaper.
