Anyone booked tickets to see The Last Supper?

I've got a work trip to Milan coming up and would love to go and see the Last Supper while I'm there. There only seems to be one ticket booking website, though, and it's showing every day as fully booked. It says keep checking, as availability gets updated every day - but does anyone know if that's true? I know it does book up early, but it does seem incredible that every time slot on every day for two months is sold out.

I'm in the same boat. Did you get any tickets?

bruffin · 05/06/2024 19:25

Have you looked on Get Your Guide?
When we went to Rome the Colloseum was sold out on the website but we managed to find a tour on Get your Guide, it was expensive but worth it.

Oriunda · 05/06/2024 21:58

When are you going? According to the website, they release extra tickets for the following week on Wednesdays at 12 noon (Italy time). You should diarise this and try and get one. Ogni mercoledì alle ore 12.00 vengono messi in vendita i biglietti aggiuntivi per la settimana successiva.

Tickets for the period March-July went on sale 1st March and would be sold out by now, so this is your only way to get a ticket.

Its not the only way to get a ticket. There a tours on Get My Guide or Viator similar, but you will be paying a premium for it but get a proper guide. The Guides in Rome were really informative

The Cenacolo is tiny, which explains why the slots sell out so quickly. I'd think paying for a guide here would be a waste of money, tbh. No comparison to the Colosseo. Disappointing that these tour touts bulk buy these tickets in order to sell as part of a pricey tour.

RoseWrites · 06/06/2024 17:01

@Oriunda I'll book that in my diary. Thanks for the tip!

TeamGeriatric · 06/06/2024 19:11

I got them on the website when we went, I've just trawled my emails and it seems I booked in late July for end of October. Everything is in Italian in the emails. I feel like some people were able to buy tickets on the day (this was 2018), our tickets were for first thing in the morning, so maybe it's worth swinging by and see if that's still an option when you get to Milan. It was very strictly controlled, a small group of people in each timeslot and all funnelled out as soon as the timeslot was over.

RoseWrites · 06/06/2024 19:12

@bruffin thanks. I exhausted those sites. Sadly no availability.

We only booked our flights yesterday for our holiday in early July so sadly we couldn't have sorted tickets out sooner

Do go up on the roof of the cathedral, whilst you are there. We took the steps and the climb was fine. Those are literally the only 2 things we did in Milan, it was a fleeting visit to catch a plane home.

I second this. We had such a good time. It felt like we were naughty kids trespassing up there, but it was completely allowed.

RoseWrites · 06/06/2024 19:18

@TeamGeriatric thank you. Can you take children to the roof? I'll have DD6 and my 3 month old with me

TeamGeriatric · 06/06/2024 19:23

I am pretty sure you can, we had a 4 and 6 year old with us when we went up. I assume the baby will be a carrier, so can't see it would be a problem, but you can ask when you get there. There are different entrances/different towers for if you are planning to walk up and for taking the lift. I can't remember how well signposted it all was.

socialdilemmawhattodo · 06/06/2024 19:29

I went in 1998 or 99. Stayed a day after a work trip, got up early and queued just before all the coach parties arrived. Only reason I am posting is to say, yes it was worth it. But I was there on my own, not with kids.

For the Da Vinci painting or for the Duomo roof? There was no queue to walk up to the roof when we went and it only took a few minutes to climb up. I am sure the elevator had a queue.

Thanks so much everyone. No joy with tickets, though I'll try the Wednesday tip. I don't want to shell out for a guided tour, so I'll probably spend the time in the cathedral and the Pinacoteca instead. Liking the sound of the roof climb too.

For the DaVinci. I must remember the Duomo roof for future trips.

TeamGeriatric · 07/06/2024 09:49

Agree, my kids endured but were not that interested in the painting of the Last Supper, but the husband and I enjoyed seeing it.

Yes, this. They raised numbers a while ago, but it’s still only 215 people in total per day. I wasn’t able to get tickets on a last-minute trip before Covid, but went out to the Cenacolo anyway, as I had a meeting nearby, and one of the nice people on the desk let me in, as someone hadn’t turned up in time. Clearly I was in very charming mode that day in my pidgin Italian.

Tickets for a tour of the last supper have just come up on Viator but it would be £300 for me, DH, and our children who are 5 and 12 weeks. That seems like a mad amount to spend when 50% of our group will have zero interest.

Our flights were less than £300 so I'll just have to go again... :)

You only get 15 minutes in the refectory where the painting is. The rest of the time (up to 60 minutes) is the museum bit. For that price, you could afford to book a timed slot for a specific date, get a cheap flight and hotel.

Pre booked this through tiqets.tp.st/SpuVViJT Expensive but we had no option as the official website was sold out. They’re strict about IDs- must bring your passports- no copies allowed! You’d think you’re in border security. They don’t allow big bags. There is a locker for a medium sized bag. Room is dark , we got plenty of time to click pics. Our guide was knowledgeable. He answered questions patiently. If you are into your museums/ art then you’d not be disappointed. Be prepared to pay the price and don’t forget your ID. Needless to say it was the highlight of my Milan trip.
