Things to do in Paris during the Olympics

But with a few constraints... I'll be volunteering at the Olympics, and in Paris for two weeks. My shifts (at Stade de France) are evenings, mostly starting between 3.30 and 5 but finishing late.
So I have a lot of time I can fill, and obv hope to get tickets to a few things but pretty constrained on timing each day- I'll need to get back to my hotel and change to then start walking to my shift an hour before.
Any hidden gems or things not to miss that are an hour or two of doing things on your own?

Well, what do you like doing? Where are you staying?

CMOTDibbler · 08/05/2024 09:28

I'm staying near to the Stade de France. I like museums (art, science, medical esp), walking, swimming, looking at interesting buildings, nice gardens/parks, really open to anything

Curie Museum. It's small but free. Near a park with a statue of liberty in. Note the fairly limited opening times, including being closed for all of August (not sure when the Olympics are).

It's also near the university, so quite a nice area to just wander around and get a baguette for lunch.

I went to Paris with DP while he was working there for a few days and I just wandered around for a day, seeing where I ended up. As well as the Curie museum, I saw lots of parks (remember there was a nice one between the side of the Louvre where the big glass triangle is in the direction of the Arc de Triomphe), walked past Notre Dame, went in the Pompidou Centre to warm up and have a hot chocolate - was a freezing March day when I did this.

@CMOTDibbler What you can do defends on transport! Are you near a station? You have every morning so transport is key to getting back and hopefully it won’t be too busy! Parisians might have all gone on holiday!

My DD has just visited the Louis Vuitton Foundation. She said it was brilliant. Go for a river trip. Look at quieter areas, eg walk by canal. Lonely Planet will give you tips. Go to any parks. Walk around different areas and enjoy shops and cafes. Galleries Lafayette is great. Palais Royale area has covered arcades and is less visited. I might skip the obvious areas but you need to judge how busy it is.

@TizerorFizz yes, my hotel is next to a stop on metro line 12 so it's easy to get around. Some days I'll be working till midnight and not back to my hotel until 1 probably and on my feet for that time, so I want to have a variety of things on a list depending on how I feel each day
