First time Sardinia recommendations?

Considering a week away in Sardinia in September which will be us, 2 year old DD and my parents but I'm a bit lost with where to start searching as I've just relaised how big the island is.

Where would you recommend if we want a pretty town or village with some good restaurants (that will be OK to bring a toddler to) and close to nice beaches (walkable or short drive). Probably self-catering (but would eb eating out) but would consider a hotel too especially for having a pool to chill out by in case long beach days are too much with a toddler. We would mostly be looking to relax and spend time on the beach so don't need much sightseeing nearby but would want a short transfer (less than 1 hr) from the airport as toddler currently hates the car.

Flying from Stansted so all aiports are an option but Olbia looked best last time I looked.

Also how long does the weather stay nice in September?

We went to the Mark Warner resort in Perdepera with a toddler and baby, it was a lovely holiday. The only issue to my mind is that because it was AI we didn't really explore the island much but it was certainly a relaxing holiday!

We went one September - on the plane I was reading the in flight magazine which told me September was rainy season, and yes it definitely was 😅 absolutely torrential and not pleasant enough on sunny days to lounge by the pool, just 20c. What are you planning to do there?

Thanks for the responses! I had been banking on beach (and maybe pool) weather in September but if that’s not the case we would reconsider. @ThreeWheelsGood was that early or late Sept and which part of the island?

Cala di Falco is lovely. Pools, beach across the road, town 5 mins walk. They have self catering and hotel accommodation and you can also choose various board options. https://www.hotelcaladifalco.com/en/

We went to southern coast of Sardinia (flew to Cagliari) Oct 23 - beautiful weather, 26-28 degrees, no rain and beaches virtually empty. Most restaurants seemed to welcome children tho we were just DH and me. It’s a great place for small kids, took ours to north east area aged 1 and 4 20+ years ago - sandy safe beaches and kid friendly food. You do need a car tho. Enjoy!

We went to Sardinia last year in September, flying into Olbia. We stayed in a villa slightly inland but drove round and visited a few of the resort towns just north of Olbia, plus a couple of the inland towns too.

We found that it was definitely end of the summer season and in a couple of the resorts (eg places built around a marina) there were very few places open to eat out at lunchtime. I don't know about evenings as we stayed close to our villa .

Just to be aware of. Obviously you would be fine in a hotel - perhaps one with its own beach.

Weather was lovely though .

You don’t need a car in Alghero.
