Suggestions for Japan - Tokyo and Osaka hotels

Hello, after a work bonus we have now booked flights for a holiday of a life time.
Me, DH and two pre-teen children.

The flights are booked and now we need to book hotels

we would need - 2/3 nights in Tokyo
3/4 nights in Osaka
then just over a week in Tokyo

Also the flight back is super early - would it be better to get a cheap and cheerful hotel in Haneda? Child didn't like the idea of a capsule hotel though...

We don't need anything fancy:

  • one room for all is ok
  • ideally western style but ok with futons (even if just for the kids)
  • ensuite is essential

Thanks for any ideas to check for planning

Loved our hotel in Osaka - right in the centre and with the most brilliant and bewildering breakfast buffet ever

Ps joined the queue for ghibli tickets to find 14000 people ahead of us in the virtual queue!! I'd suggest plan B lined up. Japan is amazing but completely overrun with tourists. I'd really recommend careful planning and booking things in advance where you can.

So should I try and log on at 1am instead of 2am? as they open at 2am?
We will still go to Mitaka and the park even if we can't get tickets...

And do you know that there is a Ghibli theme park as well as the museum?

This is the reason I need to go back...

Maybe. We ended up getting them through an agent in the end. Klook also had them. Mitaka is just lovely and so nice to see yet another side to Tokyo!

Mario Land was fantastic, the food in the restaurant is also Mario themed. The queue said a 2 hour wait but we got in within an hour!

Would also recommend Ghibli Museum if your children are in to Anime. Not really my thing but quite enjoyed wandering around for a couple of hours, was a bit of a trek to get to though.

We had a uk based agent who seemed to do everything via https://www.japanawaits.com
might be worth a try?
