Which New York city pass?

Can anyone who's been to New York recently recommend a pass to buy in advance for entry to the major sights?
We're going full-on tourist mode with older teens for 4 days in June - we'd like to visit some/all of the following: Top of the Rock; Empire State Building; World Trade Centre; maybe a bus tour; Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island museum; MOMA; the High Line.
Any recommendations for the best value pass would be appreciated - thanks!

Following! I was looking g at this but think it might actually be cheaper just to pay for what we want to see. I can't work out if the passes give a discount or free entry.

Also following as we’re booked to go later in the year so interested in responses.

We got the C3 CityPASS last year & used it for Edge at Hudson Yards, 9/11 Museum & a Circle Line Sightseeing Cruise. It saved us (2 adults, 1 teen) around $100. Easy to navigate the website & make bookings.

The High Line is free (& over-rated in my opinion) much nicer to stroll along the Hudson.

I’m going this weekend and bought the CityPass, the one for five attractions .

Edited

Does it get you in free to give attractions or a discount? And do you have to pick the five when you buy it.

SpaSpa · 30/04/2024 15:41

The top two attractions are included and then you choose three of the five listed underneath in the photo.
There’s no additional fee for the attractions and you choose them after you’ve purchased it.

It's generally not worth including the Statue of Liberty in the pass because it's only $25, cheaper than the other attractions they list as part of the any 3 or whatever. Buy directly from the national park service for the best prices. We just bought tickets individually for each attraction as the savings were only a couple of dollars per attraction which is wiped out if the weather is poor or you decide to do something else, just prebook the Statue of Liberty if you want the earliest boat (which you do, Ellis Island is fascinating and the two together take a full day, don't rush it!) Walking the high line and along the Hudson River is free and worth it, the 911 memorial is open (free) we didn't go into the museum as was advised it is not worth the exorbitant entry price.

Harlem Jazz musuem is free but you need to take headphones each with you, top top to take subway or bus up there (we preferred the buses) then walk back through the park to midtown. Check entry times. There's a lovely soul food place near the museum and the Apollo Theatre is very interesting if you love music, so many have played there

If you like military history / aviation the intrepid museum is a must see but there are free entry times check their website before you buy tickets. Best bit of all was the scale LEGO model though! We skipped Concorde as can visit the one near our house for far lessGrin

We used CityPass when we were there in December and found it good value…we literally sat down and wrote a checklist as to which each one covered and worked out we reckoned we’d get best value from

I forgot to say the pass was £107 each and incudes a return trip in the evening to the Empire State Building.

Gherkingreen · 01/05/2024 12:51

Thanks so much for all your tips! Will plan the itinerary and work out pay as we go vs pre-pay.
We've been before when we lived in the US but DCs were young so this trip will include much more walking and longer days.
We did the Empire State Bldg as they were very into Percy Jackson so that was a massive hit, but might give it a miss this time.
We visited the 911 memorial gardens but the tower was still in construction.
Did my DH ask you to recommend that aviation museum?! That's totally his and DS1's bag (see also: still v much love LEGO)- we might do different things that day 😂
Thanks all!

We went in February and bought our passes on Groupon. 10 attractions cost £199 and we got another £20 odd each back via top cashback. Each attraction ended up being under £18 which was good. We opted for 10 attractions due to time of year thinking if it was rubbish weather we had something to do. You potentially won’t need 10:attractions as it is a lot.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 02/05/2024 07:32

For us it worked out cheaper to pay for what we wanted.

Depends what you want to do though.

NotNowGertrude · 02/05/2024 07:50

Does anyone know if you get the pass do you get guaranteed entry? I've noticed some of the museums have no availability for tickets in the summer so wondered how this works?

I prebooked my museums, I guess it depends how early you buy your pass.

You’ll likely join a queue. There are usually 2. One for pass holders and one for direct bookings.

I went with hubby last year and used the GoCity 3 day pass. We stayed a week but did the main attractions we wanted to see with the pass and just wandered around for the other days. We worked out the attractions on a spreadsheet and it worked out cheaper for us to use the pass.
