Tenerife

never been to the Canary Islands. we tend to avoid the usual “Brits abroad” type places/package holidays - preferred holidays in the past have been campsites in Netherlands and France, though we also liked the Algarve. kids will be 10 and 11 next year.

anyway looking at Tenerife for Easter next year for two reasons

  1. kids love waterparks and have heard of Siam park. They talk about Slide and Splash in Portugal all the time and I’m hoping it’s better?
  2. we’d really like to visit a proper volcano. Only warm weather alternative I’m aware of in Europe is Etna - for when they are a bit older I think
I’m looking at self catering in Costa Adeje- can’t bear the thought of AI. We will hire a car for some of the time and head up to the north and other places, not stay there the whole time. I looked at staying in the less developed north but I gather the weather is less reliable.

Will it be warm (ideally not Hot) and will we enjoy it?!

ps Aware of the recent protests in Tenerife and am sympathetic, from what I can tell it’s protesting about the unsustainable development not the actual tourists per se.

Also fast passes weren't required at Easter

TakeOnFlea · 04/05/2024 12:58

"Siam park was about 35 euro a person when I went at Easter- we got a free burger by booking with a company called Attraction Tickets it wasn't £100 pp?"

You got lucky. Plenty of reviews over Easter show the absolute mayhem. You can strike lucky. It's €42 entry and yes you can get free burgers, so knock that off, the fast passes are another €28, lockers are €10 and non refundable this year and you need aqua shoes. A couple of drinks and a taxi both ways (the OP isn't wanting to stay where the free buses go from) and you're at €85-100 depending on burger situation 🤣

It's true it isn't cheap but it's the reason many people go to Tenerife. Certainly brought us back twice. I don't think OP is looking for a super low budget holiday, just factor it in to the budget.
I didn't find the food too awful or expensive.
When we were there you could buy tickets for a second visit on the day. Worth going at the beginning of the week if this might appeal.

Thank you. Is SP horribly busy? I have heard it can be.

I DETESTED Siam Park. One of the most unenjoyable days I’ve ever spent on a holiday. It was so overcrowded I felt claustrophobic. Hideous.

Pintoo · 04/05/2024 17:59

@CurlyhairedAssassin I tend to agree but my DC had one of the best days of their lives.

longdistanceclaraclara · 04/05/2024 18:50

Friend just back from Siam Park, horrified at the lack of safety...

tanstaafl · 05/05/2024 08:41

@longdistanceclaraclara

any details on that?
we were there 2 months ago and didn’t have any concerns.

Cant understand why you won’t do AI cause your a holiday snob but choose to go to a 3 star apartment

So many nice hotels in Tenerife that offer BB that are of a better standard than the apts you are looking at

You just need to know where to look

Yes I have seen that one. Looks lovely but would need some convincing to get dh to agree (he doesn’t really do “posh”).

If posh to him means excellent service, beautiful rooms/suites and an immaculately maintained hotel, then he’s missing out.
