I'd love to hear if anyone has been to Aphrodite Hills hotel in Cyprus before I book, would you recommend it for a family holiday?

I went last month, the hotel is lovely as are the staff. I went there on an adult only holidays but I could see it would work well for families.
I wouldn’t recommend it if you are beach lovers as it’s quite far from the nearest nice beach.
The food and drink were very good, my favourite things were the Tui Blu classes such as sunset yoga. There was a lot of entertainment for DC too.
The evening entertainment was fun.
Next time I would stay in Paphos as I do like the beach.
The transfer was really fast.
The lunches outside in the Mexican restaurant were a highlight. The all inclusive package was generous and the bars very good.

We very seriously considered going this year but were worried about how remote it was and not easy to get to beach / town. Also the golf appeared to be very expensive and that would have been one of the reasons we’d have picked it. @SpaSpa do you think older teens would enjoy it there?

Thank you so much, great to hear the food, drink and entertainment were good, that is really important to us. I was wondering if there are local buses to the beach?

Did your DC do the kids club? I'd like to know what that is like too, if you don't mind sharing.

Thanks again!

I was about to book if and then realised it isn’t near the beach. It’s a major downside

SpaSpa · 28/04/2024 16:39

The bus to Paphos takes about 40 minutes. There is a not very nice beach you can walk to (steep coming back). I’m not sure about any other beaches.
I didn’t use the kids club but the toddler and adult entertainment was to a good standard.
It would be a good place to hire a car if you like to explore. I did a reasonably priced Tui trip which was good. I also did an art class, loads of yoga and relaxing classes, paddle board yoga and things like boules and shuffleboard.
The Tui and other hotel staff were excellent.
You can walk to other restaurants near the villas and get a discount.

I doubt it, because the hotel is up an access road and part of the Aphrodite Hills resort. You might be able to walk down the hill and get a public bus from the road, but the beaches around that area aren't very nice. Aphrodite Hills has its own beach resort with a shuttle bus, but we thought it was a bit crap tbh. Are you sure the hotel is still a Tui Sensatori? I thought it had changed to something else ...

SpaSpa · 28/04/2024 17:33

It’s still a Sensatori and a Tui Blu. In the winter it’s just an Atlantica hotel, it changes over early March.

SpaSpa · 28/04/2024 17:36

The public bus stop is outside the hotel, as in a two minute walk, the reception have the timetable. The bus goes to Paphos one way and I think a village and the rock the other way.
Don’t book this hotel if you want a beach holiday, if you are more pool
people then you’ll like it. The children’s small water park/area looked great fun.

I think there are much better hotels for older teens.
The golf was expensive, my DH played twice. He played in the afternoon when it was cheaper but it was still €130 euros per round or maybe more and you absolutely need to hire a buggy. The golf course is stunning, it wraps around the whole hotel complex and has sea views. The wellbeing platform where the yoga etc take place is also in an amazing location.

We went in October 2019 when DD was 12 and liked it. The only issue we had was the distance from a beach.

We liked the restaurants, the fact that it wasn't overrun by families with small children, we wanted a bit of more quite one. No idea about the kids club.

We had a car but we planned it as a sightseeing holiday so were out each day and had the afternoon at the hotel.

Can't comment on golf, none of us plays.

Thank you. I’m glad we didn’t book as it doesn’t sound quite right for what we’re looking for. The kids would happily play golf every day but not at that price!

When we went a few years ago the bus went into Aphrodite Hills and it's in the middle of nowhere

Have been, didn't work for us - pools were absolutely rammed and food awful. There was also an issue booking restaurants - you had to do it on the day - really annoying.

It's not a big site and it felt very claustrophobic.

There is golf and tennis in a separate centre there but it's ££££.

RomeoRivers · 30/04/2024 17:06

We went May 2022, really liked it, great food- particularly breakfast and the Asian restaurant. We booked a swim up room which was great because it was nearly impossible to get a sunbed down at the main pool. Kids’ pool, park and mini disco were great too (for little ones).

You are the second poster to mention that the pools are very busy! I'm surprised that it was difficult to get a sunlounger even in may, it must be even worse in August! That's problematic, given that you can't potter down to the beach as an alternative.

Would you not recommend it on that basis?

They were very busy, so a swim up room is a must. They also do villas with private pools within the resort, but I don’t know what the price of those is like.

What month did you go? Was it last year?

No it was pre covid actually, I think it was 2017 so it may have changed.

makeanddo · 01/05/2024 13:49

It would have been beginning of July.
