Tenerife?

I’m looking at Tenerife for a break of around a week. I don’t know anything about Tenerife.

Keen to avoid the”Brits abroad” vibe, but happy to be in a busy or quiet resort if there’s a few nice bars, would also like the option of good local food.

We’ve seen a good deal for Callao Salvaje, near Costa Adeje. Does anyone have any positives or negatives?

Took adult daughter and three DGS (at the time 12,4 and 3 ) to costa Adeje in 2022 to a love family hotel. We really enjoyed it there was a nice family vibe about the area we took a trip up in to the mountain and we older ones did paragliding over the island ( not all at the same time) a trip to a wild life sanctuary and dolphin watching on a boat trip. We enjoyed lots of local cooking in various cafes and restaurants and saw traditional buildings and spoke with lots of welcoming Spaniards. We had a great time.

Costa Adeje is fab, there are lots of Brits but the well behaved sort 🤣
Restaurants for every budget and plenty to do. We love it.

Puerto de la Cruz in the north is gorgeous. We've stayed at a few places around the island and it's definitely the nicest and most "Spanish" town. Banana plantations, botanical gardens, lovely hiking.

I'm not keen on the south though, it's much more concrete/benidorm.

I was there last month. Also not into the Brits abroad vibe. It's actually very easy to avoid the naff bits - steer clear of the southern resorts including Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas. I didn't like Costa Adeje or Los Gigantes that much either. I did stay in Alcala in the south, which I loved. Very authentic coastal town, which isn't very touristy with some cute black sand beaches.

Puerto de la Cruz is beautiful too.

If you stick to mainly the north, there's lots of beautiful beaches which aren't touristy at all. Plus, food and drink is very cheap over there!

Costa Adeje is nice, particularly towards the northern end.

I found that whole south strip quite brits abroad and very busy. Costa adeje was better than the others though

Why go were locals are demonstrating because they DONT WANT tourists?

My first impression on my first trip to Tenerife was 'What am I doing here' it seems very bleak and desolate, but that is just the volcanic landscape. The resorts are good, as others have said, avoid the bigger, older resorts of Playa de las Americas. Having said that, if you go up to Veronicas in PDlA you can walk all the way along a cliff and sea side path, right past Adeje and beyond, loads of bars and restaurants for refreshments, and you go through lots of different areas. Do not miss a trip up Mt Teide. It is the highest mountain in Spain and is truly anazing. There is a hotel in the middle of the caldera which is good for a break and a bite to eat. You can drive most of the way up, to the base station of the cable car. If you go up in the cable car, as you rise above the edge of the crater, Gran Canaria comes into view. It us truly amazing. If you want a change, go on a trip to La Gomera, a very different landscape to Tenerife, and much less developed. Its about an hours boat trip, and there are guided tours available, which are good. Enjoy your holiday.
