Off to Paris for 3 nights with my 22 year old daughter next week.

So far we have booked Musee D'Osay for the afternoon after we arrive. We also want to book the Louvre - can you do both in one day?

Booked Moulin Rouge show (at great expense), they only have the 11pm show available so that will be one late night.

What are the other must sees? I've been to Paris before but dd hasn't. She wants to do the Eiffel Tower and I want to go to Angelina's for hot chocolate!

I second @aphroditeflighty's warnings about tourist scams. They're very active in Paris, seriously watch out.

For me, Paris is more about experiencing the local life, such as dinner at La Coupole, or shopping at the boutiques, than visiting the tourist spots such as the Eiffel Tower.

I was in Paris recently for 3 days and didn't encounter any scammers or any pickpockets. Maybe it's my resting bitch face!!

I've been to Paris multiple times and there is always still something left to see! This trip I went to see the Pompidou Centre (work going on) and the clock at the centre of the Quartier de l'Horloge. I also went to the Latin Quarter and the universities for the first time. I didn't get time to go to Sacre Coeur/Montmartre sadly but I love it there. I don't care about the tourists. It's a definite must see. It's the first place I went to in Paris as a student in 1983 when we only had a few hours in the city and I love it still.

I was a little disconcerted when we were having dinner one night in the 1e, and a mouse ran across the floor! I pointed this out to the waiter and he laughed and said it was because there was building work nearby and the mice were friendly!! Another place I stopped off in for a chocolat chaud had a beautiful seemingly resident cat (suppose that took care of the mice!!)

I also explored Les Halles and Le Marais, and the shops on Rue de Rivoli. There's just so much in Paris, I don't know how long you would need to fully explore!

Haven’t RTFT but the Dior museum is a great trip. So glamorous and Parisian! You can get tickets or just turn up and queue, took us about an hour but very worth it. A lovely alternative to the more usual tourist spots.

We did the tower, the views are amazing but it is rather expensive for what it is imo. The queues went on forever but it was early September and in a heatwave so would explain it.

We also did Jardin des Plantes, 75005 Paris, France. The gardens were beautiful and there's a zoo type place also attached.

We’re here and having a great time! Packed a lot into the first two days but tomorrow and the next day we have nothing planned so I’m plenty of time to wander and explore. Saw Isle of Louis briefly today, is it worth going back there for shopping?

Want to do Galleries Lafayette tmw, where else would you recommend for nice shops?

Île St L is cute, and has small independent shops, but you’d be better off in Le Marais for that type of shopping tbh.

There are several ‘grand magasins’ in Paris, of which Galeries Lafayette is the most touristy (think equivalent of Harrods). I prefer next door Printemps. Le Bon Marché on the left bank is wonderful; you could visit the hidden church next door to it, our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. A sort of mini Lourdes, and stunning.

My favourite area for shopping is Les Halles/Quartier Montorgueil/Etienne Marcel. E. Dehillerin is a cook’s dream, with every implement known to man. Lots of great vintage there like Kiliwatch, and of course you’ve got Westfield at Châtelet.

I'd recommend the catacombs - takes about an hour but so interesting.

I've been to Paris twice, both on school trips, on one of them I got groped. What he didn't know was that my spoken french was rather good so I gave him a mouthful of french a good Welsh school girl shouldn't know. Also learning a few phases of Welsh confuses the heck out of scammers

I should probably add, be careful of some of the scams that happen in tourist areas - they might have changed since I lived there, but I only got caught out by one of them. If a young African man approaches you with some decorative string and you offer your wrist, you'll be stuck until they finish weaving a bracelet around it, and will then ask for an exorbitant amount. This one happened to me, and he went from super friendly to mean the moment money was mentioned. He wanted 20 euros, I gave him about 3 - obviously he wasn't happy. At least by wearing it, subsequent men who went in for the same scam, noticed my wrist and then walked away. :)

I was also near Notre Dame when a lady bent down, picked up a gold ring and asked if I dropped it. I said no, but she forced it into my hand, and said it might be valuable, I should keep it. I insisted on not having it,, and told them they should hand it over to the police. I then twigged that I was being set up,and the lady was most likely Romanian. After much insistence that I kept it, they started to walk away and then asked if I had some money for food. I said I didn't, but I have this ring that might be valuable, and handed it back - if looks could kill!! :D

If someone asks if you speak English, pretend to be German and reply Nein, and that will throw them off. Don't sign any fake petitions.

I have just got back from Paris and can second pretending to be German.

”Nicht verstehen” dredged from the depths of my memory served me well. Street sellers, beggars and scammers alike all backed off immediately, rather than pushing more if I just said “no” or “no thank you” in English.

I stayed in the 15th arrondissement and really liked it, it’s broadly speaking much less touristy and absolutely full of lovely places to eat, central enough to walk directly to the Eiffel Tower or get a metro pretty much anywhere else.

Recommend the catacombs! Really, really fascinating. If you make your way there from the Trocadero station, you’ll be treated to particularly lovely views of the Eiffel Tower between the Pasy and Bir-Hakeim stations.

For cheap but good quality food Bouillon Pigalle is a decent place to go. The queues can be absolutely massive though, so I’d recommend booking (you can do same day bookings).

I found the area around Shakespeare and Co utterly lacking and wouldn’t bother going back on a return visit.

I've been to France numerous times and never had an issue! I spent a month in Grenoble at uni, and I did feel uncomfortable there, because there were a lot of north Africans openly leering, and we stuck closely together as a group. Nothing ever happened but I would have been very concerned if I had been on my own.

I've never been approached by anyone who pursued the matter when I ignored them. I just shake my head and walk purposefully on.

We travel to France next week and I wanted to see the Catacombs, but I am not too good going down on steps - bad knees. Has anyone any advice, are they really steep etc.

Many thanks.

Catacombs have lots of steps down. You go down about 5 stories on a spiral staircase. Not massively steep but lots and lots of steps both down and up.
