DP and I have both got up to date passports, but not the dcs.. We are hoping to go on the ferry in July? Do they need passports does anyone know? Don't want to get them if I don't really need to just yet as we won't be going abroad for a few years and it'd be a waste. Ta for your help.

I believe they will as you are travelling out of the UK.

ChasingSquirrels · 31/03/2008 21:50

this help? although it just says ireland not eire.

IdrisTheDragon · 31/03/2008 21:52

I think you don't necessarily need a passport but do need photo ID. Not sure what photo ID a child would have though.

Is there anything on the passport agency website? Or on ferry companies who go to Ireland?

PuppyMonkey · 31/03/2008 22:05

Thanks Squirrels, i found that too but wasn't sure if it meant eire either. The ferry website is a bit vague and just says "usually" don't under its FAQs... I couldn't find the proper passport website, just loads of crappy advertising things... do you know what the proper link is...

had another google and found other links that say you definitly don't - but I guess you might need photo id - probably worth just phoning the ferry company.

Thank you all so much. It says this on the Irish ferries website... "Irish Ferries recommend all passengers bring a passport with them. Irish and British citizens do not strictly require a passport to travel between the two countries - some form of identification is however required. Photo ID, Bank Cards or bills for house utilities addressed to you are all acceptable and useful means of identification."

But our dds don't have driving licence, banks cards etc. Or any form of ID. S'pose I could bring their birth certificates...

I've never been asked on the ferry, but could you maybe phone up the company and ask what the policy is for kids?

Why would I waste my time on nutjobs, Puppy, when we have you to work up ?

PuppyMonkey · 31/03/2008 22:30

I just sneaked a look and she said Cheerio to me and you!

Now all her mates are there telling her how great she is...

I honestly can't be arsed. I usually give BF threads a swerve because it's funnier and more entertaining to list to 'Who Let The Dogs Out'.

Just for future reference in case anyone needs to know... the ferry company says: "No, you don't need one!"

You only need photo ID (and then very rarely!)
