I'm looking for some advice of where to go for the August bank Holdiay with my 4yo DS. Last year we rented a cottage in Newquay, but I want to find something with a few more familying activities as my DS is a LOT more energetic now. I had a look at Centre Parcs but it seems very expensive. Are there any good alternatives you can recommend?

My son adores camber sands.
There isn't a huge amount to do there, but the beach is wonderful.

Ahh, just googled it! Do you usually stay in airbnb's there?

Perranporth is fantastic with young kids. I think it’s far more suitable than Newquay for kids that age.

We had a brilliant holiday in Bamburgh when DS was younger. As long as you have a car to get around, there's loads to do. Castles, sandy beaches, boat trips.

@Mumofleo123 we normally stay in the Park Dean caravan site. It has an outdoor splash park that my son loves and is in walking distance to the beach.

My DC used to love Haven holidays and Center Parcs at that age.

Where do you live, how far are you wanting to travel, is it just you and your son or do you also have a partner and other children, what is your budget etc?

Northumberland is lovely lots of big long beaches, castles and big skies. But chilly.

The East Neuk of Fife is good too.

Lots of beaches and little seaside towns in yorkshire.

At that age they often like the entertainment available at a caravan park as well as a beach. But it is also peak time so you would be paying a premium.

The Isle of Wight is brilliant and there's so much to do for kids plus the beaches are great and there's loads to explore.

We love the Isle of Wight. We've stayed in Ryde quite a few times. Great beach, Puck-pool park close by, little funfair, big slides, good transport links. I love watching the hovercrafts, boats, quite a few shops. Loads to visit further afield too. You can get the train from Ryde to Sandown/Shanklin. Dinosaur museum at Sandown might be of interest. I think it would be great for a 4 year old, and you too! Is it just the 2 of you going?

At 4 they will enjoy any caravan park style holiday. The downside is I think the cheapest units tend to sell out very early so there's probably mostly the most expensive ones left. Haven or Parkdean sites near you worth a look.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 22/04/2024 22:00

I've never been to Centre Parcs but I always think it looks expensive.

When DS was younger, we went to Butlins a lot - mainly at Minehead. Or Haven or another Caravan Park with splash pool and activities should be good .

Norfolk is great. You get lovely beaches, loads of steam railways and steam fairs. Boat rides to see the puffins and seals are very cute. And you can take tiny electric boats up through the reed beds too which is lovely.
