STRUGGLING to decide: Shorter journey or longer journey with nicer hotel room with baby?

Help please! Planning a first holiday and my LO will be 8 MO.
What's better with the baby?

Option 1:

  • 15 minutes quicker to the airport
  • a shorter flight (flight is 3 hours long)
  • 10 minutes quicker travel to hotel (30 mins all together)
  • standard room

Option 2:
-15 minutes further to the airport
-longer flight (flight is 4.5 hours)
-10 minutes longer travel to hotel (40 minutes all together)
-nicer room with direct pool access so more convenient to be in and out of pool and straight back into room with baby.

We will be spending the majority of the time in the hotel.

Thanks in advance!

Option 2 definitely. The difference in journey time won't even register vs a much nicer hotel room

idontlikealdi · 17/04/2024 08:47

If you're spending most of the time in the hotel I'd go for option 2

Yep, option 2 for me as well!

ExpulsoCorona · 17/04/2024 08:49

Option 2 👍🏽

Awrite · 17/04/2024 08:51

Definitely option 2.

InTheRainOnATrain · 17/04/2024 08:54

Yes definitely option 2. Whilst it’s all longer travel than option 1 it’s not so long that I wouldn’t want to do it with a baby, and I’d always prioritise the 6 days in the hotel versus then 2 travelling (assuming going for a week).

Hyperquiet · 17/04/2024 08:55

Thanks all. I'll be going for 5 nights.

There's also a 2 hour time difference for option 2 - it will be 2 hours ahead if that changes anything for baby. Whereas option 1 has no time difference.

We'll be going with some extended family who will be getting standard rooms. That doesn't defeat the purpose of a family holiday does it - as we'll be seeing them for all meals and in the evenings as well as in the daytime near main pool when LO is awake and we want to leave the room.

Oh option 2 for the room set up alone. Hands down. So convenient for the pool to be right next to your room.

I always found it was only takeoff & landing that kids have an issue with so the time in he middle makes no odds really.

Re: time difference, you can ignore local time & stick to your normal routine if that works for you.

SleepingisanArt · 17/04/2024 09:23

Only question about option 2 is how close to the pool is it? Will the noise be disruptive to naps etc?

Hyperquiet · 17/04/2024 09:33

It'll be a shared pool for some rooms so not for everyone. And I suppose we could always use white noise!

A +2 hour time difference can be a benefit with a baby, if they have a usual routine and you can stick to it, they sleep in 'later' and stay up later so you can have dinner!

Hyperquiet · 17/04/2024 13:24

Thanks. I was just thinking that the time difference might be an adanatage too actually!

Absolutely option 2. Having a swim up room with a little one is invaluable 👌

Hyperquiet · 18/04/2024 15:51

The flights going to arrive at 9pm so by the time we get to the hotel it will be 10 pm

On the way back we won't get back to the UK till 1 am and be home by 2 am

Is this going to be too difficult with the baby?

You'll be fine -maybe a bit of an out of sorts day for one day but then fine
I fly back to the UK regularly with my kids since they were old enough to fly - it's a three hour time difference. Just stick to your usual timings and honestly, kids are generally super adaptable. Enjoy your holiday!
