Destinations for 16th birthday trip?

My son is due to turn 16 in middle of August, & I'd like to arrange a trip somewhere for the 4 of us (DP, me and 13 year old daughter). My son is very much a loner (is autistic) so doesn't really have any friends so a party isn't an option. I thought a few days away to make it special might be nice - New York is looking too expensive so maybe Amsterdam? Any one have any other ideas?

What sort of things does he like doing? Walking/ exploring? Sightseeing? How is he with crowds? Rome would be good - lots of classic sights but mostly my teenagers liked the pizza and ice cream. Might be too hot in Aug though…

I wouldn’t want to go to New York in august. We are going to New York in November we booked just after Christmas in the BA sale it was just over £2600 for 4 (me, dh & 2 teens).
What are your sons interests?

How about Gdansk? We had a short break there in March. It's not too big, so isn't overwhelming, & it wasn't too busy either. It's v pretty & it's got some great sights. My son loved the WW2 museum. The food was lovely- my son really enjoyed lots of excellent beefburgers from little independant places!
Really recommend it. Good luck with choosing!

Thanks for your replies - I should have included we have already done Rome, Lisbon, Barcelona, Brussels, York, Edinburgh & Bath in the past few years! He doesn't have many interests to be honest, I think that's why I'm struggling - I took him to the Tintin museum in Brussels, as that was one of them, and beside reading every book known to man (we went to the oldest bookshop in Lisbon when we were there earlier this year), the only other thing he likes doing is playing Genshin Impact on his PS4 :( His sister is very sociable and has lots of friends and as their birthdays are very close together, I always feel bad for him as it's very noticeable how different her celebrations are i.e. always with friends.

Berlin? There the Spy Museum and East Germany Museum, and it’s just a really interesting city to walk round

Any interest in Lego? The Lego house in Denmark is a good short trip if you like Lego.
Berlin is an interesting city for teens with some good bookshops and interesting history.

Amsterdam is great, you can also get the bus to Vollendam, Market and Edam for a great day out.
