Need hotel in central York but with specific requirements

I want to take DS, 11 to York for a weekend.

I don't drive so hotel / B&B has to be central.

DS gets very upset when he has to share a room with anyone else (please don't start telling me he's spoilt it's a lot more complicated than that!)

However, I do not want him being alone in a hotel so I want either interconnecting rooms or at least a family room with a section screened off. Either that or a small friendly B&B with rooms next door to each other.

The alternative is I suppose an air b&b but I have had such mixed experiences of them I tend not to use them. However if anyone has a good one to recommend in or close to central York I'd be grateful for suggestions.

If I could just book a family room and share it would be easy but sadly it's just not simple Sad

Can anyone recommend something please?

What about a serviced apartment, either one with 2 bedrooms, or you could sleep in the lounge if you're OK with that, you could probably book one via booking.com (I never use Airbnb because I don't like how you don't know the exact location until after you've booked, and booking.com just seems better in many ways).

I've stayed in holiday inns with executive rooms which are actually a bedroom and a living room which they can make up as a second bedroom. Works great for kids. I haven't stayed at the holiday inn York with kids but I would check and see

Radio city apartments might work.

This is my place…also on Airbnb but if you dm me it’s cheaper direct (though appreciate some prefer the security of a booking platform).
it’s really central and an extra bed can easily be put in the lounge instead of the bedroom.

not a b&b but there are really lovely cafes nearby and everything in York is walkable as it’s within the walls.

Kyme Street, central York, York, UK

Offering quiet street views, Kyme Street, central York is an accommodation set in York, 1.3 km from York Minster and 33 km from Bramham Park.

Thank you so much everyone some brilliant ideas.

@BamberGirl I need to sort out dates as not exactly sure when we're doing this and then I will message you. It's a lovely place you must work really hard keeping it like that :)

DS has had a really hard time lately so want to do something special for him

Bit far from York though?

No hotel or well run B&B is going to let you put a 6 year old in a separate/interconnecting room due to fire regulations.
These apartments are well located

I was going to suggest the stay city apart hotel as they have one and two beds, but they don’t seem to be taking bookings at present. Worth keeping an eye on as they would fit your requirements.

No pressure though!

wherever you stay you’ll have a great time, lots of lovely things to do in York with children that age: Railway museum, boat trip, the ghost bus and or a ghost walk, walk the walls, the chocolate story also good.
what type of food do you like? Dough Eyed pizza is fab as is Mommy Thai and Tah Tien

It's a good job her son is 11 then...

My mistake, who knows why I typed that?! Equally applicable to age 11 though. Most hotel chains say age 16.

The youth hostel at water end in York do ensuite family rooms. It's a lovely walk along the river into York itself

Rollercoaster1920 · 16/04/2024 18:26

I used to stay in the Radisson when there with work. Location is amazing (on the river, river views are nice, walk from train, walk to anything!). The website shows interconnecting rooms as the 'Family room'. https://www.radissonhotels.com/en-us/hotels/radisson-hotel-york/rooms
