2 bedrooms together - needle in a haystack?

DDs are still young so we need them to be within the same accommodation without being in the same room. It seems nigh on impossible!

Previously we've stayed self catering in the UK, till COVID priced us out. Then we did Meliá Sunny Beach for a couple of years because it's a hotel room where there's only one door. That's into our double room, then a door through to a separate twin room and ensuite. Everyone has a bed. It's completely safe. Perfect.

Due to the ages of DDs Meliá Sunny Beach doesn't suit us this year (too old for kids club, too young for teenagers club) The only places we can find are 2 rooms but no guarantee they have an interconnecting door. DDs are too young to be separate from us. Or one bedroom apartments where DDs would have the bedroom and we need to sleep on a sofa bed! That is not a holiday!

Has anyone stayed anywhere like Meliá Sunny Beach or a 2 bedroom apartment type place and would recommend it please? Anywhere in summer holiday weather Europe-ish except Turkey, Tunisia or Egypt. I have searched "everywhere* but none of the search filters help my search criteria!

All brilliant thank you and looking forward to going through these tomorrow!

No we don't have to have a club and, having run out of ideas for hotels, we've been looking at self catering 2 bed apartments. But they're either miles away from anywhere or super expensive.

Booking.com and Vrbo and Air BnB are not coming up with anything suitable. We're broadening what we're looking for but budget wise it's not a blank cheque.

Another vote for blue lagoon village kos

sansou · 14/04/2024 22:10

We have stayed here before during Easter hols when DC were primary aged. Family rooms were interconnecting hotel rooms at a cheaper rate than 2 separate hotel rooms.
Fuerte Conil
Also Chia Laguna family room twice during end of May half term.

Never stayed during peak summer months because the room rate doubles beyond our budget.

Last year we went to Majorca and booked two separate rooms. I slept with my 9 year old DD in one and my partner with our 11 year old DS in the other. Cheaper than 3 rooms because I didn't want the children sharing or us being away from them.

Zafiro hotels in Mallorca are great. All rooms are like apartments - a king size bedroom, with 2 sofa beds in the living room. Zafiro is a hotel chain, but I think most of their hotels have the same layout. Zafiro Can picafort defo has this layout. Loads of pools and you can choose to go self catering (apartments have a kitchen too), half board or AI. Kids club, family friendly entertainment etc.

No1HolidayPlanner · 14/04/2024 22:44

Look at Costa Sal, Lanzarote. Lovely complex with some 2 bedroom apartments. 2 pools and easy stroll to restaurants and beach😊

FusionChefGeoff · 14/04/2024 22:46

Would you consider using a travel agent? We use one who's part of a larger network (Travel Counsellors) and she's great at tracking down the hotels that have these special room types.

She gets paid commission from the holiday company so it's free for you.

Piccalillies · 14/04/2024 22:47

If you use the Jet2 holiday search and only specify one location, then you will get an option to filter the results by accommodation type eg 2 bedroom apartment etc

Pigeonqueen · 14/04/2024 22:55

Tui Blue, Sensatori and Magic Life brands all offer a lot of 2 bedroom options on their resorts. (We are looking for the same thing- our dc are older though, 11 and 21 (!) and happy to share a room together, we went to Magic Life Ibiza last year which was really nice).

We used one in the past. We tasked him with this one and unfortunately it's been a negative experience. He's been talking to us in quite an abrupt way that makes me think this is a tricky task he doesn't relish.

I did not know that! Thank you!

We've been to Holiday Village in Rhodes, Kos and Ibiza, all have family rooms and some of them have duplexes with a proper living room, bedroom and a mezzanine bedroom. The family rooms have the main bedroom and then two sofa beds in the living room that are separated by a sliding door.

UnderCroft · 15/04/2024 22:42

@Piccalillies I just wanted to return to say a massive THANK YOU! That tip has been an absolute game changer this evening and we now have a shortlist. Whereas before we just had a very short list 😂

Just another one to look at OP, Lanzarote Princess in Costa Teguise has little maisonettes you can book, with two bedrooms, kitchen and living area (full kids club/bars/restaurant and walking distance to beach and restaurants).

strawberry12345 · 16/04/2024 09:45

Radisson Blu in Malta has guaranteed interconnecting rooms if you book direct

Verite1 · 16/04/2024 13:07

Places that i know have either interconnecting rooms or suite with two rooms include:

Sani resort (most if not all of the hotels)
All of the Ikos resorts as far as I am aware
Hotel Lone in Rovinj, Croatia
Sun Gardens, Dubrovnik, Croatia
Suitopia in Calpe, Spain
Protur Biomar, Sa Coma, Majorca.

I can also suggest some in Italy as well if you want?

What was holiday village Rhodes and Kos like? We did Ibiza last year but would like to do a Greek Island. How do they compare to the Ibiza one? Sorry to jump in on the thread just we've been looking at both but haven't got anyone with personal experience having been!

pinkunicorns54 · 16/04/2024 20:18

I have searched high and low for this for a few weeks! There are a few... but we have just booked esperides beach resort in Greece!

We stayed at Falesia Mar/Falesia Garden in Algarve with Jet2 pre covid. We had the double room and kids had sofa beds in lounge. It worked well they had some pool activities and a lovely beach below, fabulous views and lovely big breakfasts something for everyone.

It wasn’t posh but look it up. It is a little place in Olhos d’agua not full on Albuferia.

reluctantbrit · 17/04/2024 07:32

I found two problems when we looked two years ago.

  1. if we saw "sleeps 4" or " 2 beds it was still very often a sofa bed. And with a teen who was taller than me and with reoccuring back pain, most sofa beds don't really do for her for more than 1-2 nights.

  2. if it can only booked via the hotel itself, their idea of a child was very different from Tui/Jet2. Most hotels on Rhodes we looked at had child only until 12 or 14, after that you had a three adult occupancy and the price went sky high.

DD was 15 and we bit the bullet and booked two rooms, one with a super king size and one with a double bed. They were next to each other and it worked well but she is in general a sensible girl and we knew she would prefer being holed up alone instead of out and doing mischief.

Itsanothermanicmonday · 17/04/2024 09:53

@reluctantbrit my DS was over 6ft at the time and my DD 5’9’. It wasn’t ideal but it was a large L shaped bed thing and to be fair most rooms don’t even specify about beds so you are unsure of the bed sizes/sleeping arrangements. They met lots of friends (from UK and rest of Europe) were never bored and went to bed happy and tired.

Yes, they would probably have preferred own rooms and a proper full size double bed each but most of us can’t afford that in peak season. They enjoyed the holiday and didn’t moan until the last day when they were up early to go home but other than that they didn’t complain.

The trade off is that or a quiet private villa or flat with little or nothing going on for them and no kids the same age.

Favouritefruits · 17/04/2024 09:57

This hotel’s version of a family room is two separate bedrooms! It’s on the beach and a five min drive away from Portaventura theme park. It’s a very quiet area though!

reluctantbrit · 17/04/2024 10:40

@Itsanothermanicmonday We actually found 2 bedrooms were a lot less money than a family room or similar.

But luckily for us, DD decided she doesn't want resort holiday anymore and we do now city breaks with an appartment instead, followed by a spa hotel or similar we then book 2 rooms.
