Hi
How much money do you think I should be taking for a two week holiday in Greece for 2 adults and a hungry teen We usually go half board but want more flexibility to try some hopefully gorgeous food at local tavernas and restaurants. We probably have breakfast on the balcony but will be eating out most days for lunch and dinner?Could anyone please advise on the rough figure I should look at taking?

I would be thinking about 15 euro for a main meal and possibly 8-10 euro for a salad/ lunchtime snack, so perhaps 100 euro a day for the 3 of you excluding your breakfasts, snacks and alcohol.
Obviously if you like cocktails and wine with your meals then the cost will shoot up, but I would estimate 1500 euro for 2 weeks for eating out and be prepared to put the supermarket shop on card.

Thanks. How much cash/euro do you think we should take … previously mostly paid using card on hols and taken a few hundred euros for tips and likes … but this is our first trip to Greece so unsure on preference. More cash less on card or is it better mostly using card ?

We paid mainly with cards at the restaurants. We were in Rhodes and Rhodes City or Lindos was more expensive than smaller, out of the way restaurants.

We normally have some Euros at home and take our debit cards with us so we then just go to a cash machine and get some. We have debit and credit cards with Nationwide and don't pay fees using them abroad.

Generally speaking it is cheaper to spend on your card than use Euros in cash, because you pay more in commission to get the cash than the 2.5% or whatever that your UK bank will charge for the card transaction. Plus if you get a card like Wise or Revolut or Monzo you only pay something like 0.4% (but there are limits on how much cash you can get with those cards).

Whatever you do, don't change Sterling cash into Euros or vice versa at an airport or your hotel, don't use a cash machine at an airport, and don't use a cash machine in the resort unless it is part of an actual bank branch.
