AIBU to consider booking a holiday on my own?

Has anybody who is with a partner and has children been on holiday on their own before? As in, solely by themselves? DH is going to Benidorm for a stag do in a few months, and I was just curious as to whether it would be unreasonable for me to want to have my own break away.
I’m not going on the hen do or anything (and just to note this is not at all about ‘me going away because he’s going away’) I just didn’t know if it would be acceptable to leave him and DD’s and take a short break by myself?

Go for it! I have fantasised with the idea lots of times but not actually done it yet... I always end up convincing myself that I'll miss them and not enjoy myself so much bit that's probably nonsense. Plus there is the practicality of my husband not realistically being able to look after them all day unless he take leave from work which sucks.

Why on earth would it be unreasonable? I’m married with a child and I go away by myself a lot (or with friends). I’ve gone to NY, Paris, the south of France, Tuscany, done various walking holidays, gone on Buddhist retreats, rented a cottage on the coast etc etc.

Why do you even need to ask this?

Peridot1 · 06/04/2024 17:22

Why not? I go away on my own a lot. Admittedly my DS is grown up. But I’ve been away on my own when he was in his teens for up to a week. For long weekends when he was hunger. I have been to Australia on my own for a month a couple of times. And to a beach resort in Greece for a week twice.

I highly recommend it!

Of course it’s fine. We’ve got a 10yo. I’ve been going away alone since he was 18 months old.

I’m currently sitting on the balcony of my holiday let in Avignon drinking wine. Only the one though as I’ve got a restaurant booked.

See OP. It’s brilliant.

Think I’m just feeling guilty for wanting a holiday without the kids! DH and DDs like a ‘sit by the pool/beach’ holiday, which don’t get me wrong, so do I!

But I can’t sit still for long and like to try new places, thinking I can scratch that itch by going it alone. Thank you for the reassurance! Off to browse city breaks for one..

I do it regularly, why not?

I do and with friends. Of course it’s fine

I went to an all inclusive resort for four nights by myself, I had the best time. I did one big excursion, visited a couple of half day places, had three two hour spa treatments and ate some lovely meals. Best of all I slept a ridiculous amount in the world’s biggest bed.

This actually sounds like heaven! So glad you had a great time, I definitely need this in my life 😆
