Help me find somewhere to go on holiday!

We’ve had a really shit few years and for various reasons have not been able to have a holiday. I am desperate for some sun, and am trying to convince my burnt out and continually poorly DH that what we really need is a package holiday, all inclusive for a total rest. We have one DC, who will be 2. We’d be looking at going in September, so she’ll be nearly 3.

DH has never been on a package holiday. He is convinced he would be bored. He’s not a great reader, is unlikely be able to tolerate lounging around for too long and can be quite introverted. He is also incredibly snobby about food. We had fairly adventurous holidays pre-DC and he mainly talks about what food he ate on those trips rather than the wonders we’ve seen.

If we were going to do a package would need to be somewhere where there was at least some interesting day trips / culture we could do. But the main thing is we need a decent rest.

Any recommendations?

I had a great package holiday to Mexico, loads of day trips available, stuff to go and see. I hired a car while I was there to drive us about rather than rely on minibus trips.

I think it surprising how package holidays are kinda fine when you have little kids! We were the same as you but have done a bunch of package holidays when kids were small.

We really like Greece. So beautiful and you could go to one of the islands with some ruins etc.

This is what I am hoping for us! We had a city break last year which was OK, but was not a rest at all. I think when it comes down to it he'd actually enjoy it more than he thinks he would.

All-inclusive food is probably going to be mostly buffets unless you get into the £500-a-night category. It can still be very good, but it may not go down well with a food snob.

Cyprus? Sunny, and you can't go anywhere without tripping over history. It's got some good walks, there are mountains, nature reserves, amazing churches ...

Cyprus would be my option

How much are you willing to spend? And what time of year? Long haul or short haul?

You can do a package holiday without going all inclusive. When ours were little we’d always get an apartment, which then solves the problem of having the child sleeping in your room. We’d have breakfast and lunch in the room. It was always something easy like pastries, bread, cereal, fruit, yoghurt etc and a sandwich for lunch and go out for evening meal.

Kos is really nice. There’s quite a lot to do on the island plus you can do a day trip to Turkey if you wanted. The sea is really warm and calm in September too.

Sorry , just seen you want all inclusive. We stayed at the Hotel PortoBello Royal in Kos which was really lovely. The food was better than average for an all inclusive, we thought, too.

Lake Garda. We stayed at a hotel, wasn’t AI but did amazing food. Good for people watching, can do boat trip round the lake, trip to Venice/Verona, or just chill
