Travel insurance

I’m going abroad with my child, and a friend and her child. I’ve booked the holiday all as one booking, separate accommodation.
Im wondering whether there’s any benefits to either booking group travel insurance or just doing myself and my child and letting my friend sort her own.
It’s unlikely, but if for some reason one of us couldn’t go and needed to claim, would it make a difference?

You all need to get travel insurance immediately to cover yourselves against anything happening that means someone cannot go. At the moment if one of you were to break a leg tomorrow and one adult and child cannot go on holiday you would still be liable to pay the full amount of the holiday because you have no insurance policy to claim on. Travel insurance covers you from the minute you book the holiday not just when you are on holiday.

As you have booked the whole holiday and are the Lead Passenger you are liable for the full amount of the holiday if anything goes wrong.

I would call your friend now and ask what her plans are. Does she have a bank account which comes with travel insurance? Does she want to organise her own? Does she want you to get insurance for the whole party and go halves on the cost with you? It doesn't matter if you have separate insurance as long as you are all covered. DP and I used to organise our own in the early days.

Make sure you all get EHIC cards as well, your friend will have to arrange her own and her child's.

Yes I know it should be booked immediately but we’re not going until August and haven’t paid for it yet.
My friend said she has her own linked to her bank account but also wants to be added to my one which doesn’t make sense to me.
If we had our own seperate insurance, and for some reason she couldn’t go, would I still be expected to go if we weren’t on the same policy? This is what I can’t work out. If we were on the same policy I know I could claim if another person in the party couldn’t go.

Equally, if we were on the same policy and she couldn’t come due to illness or something, but I still chose to go with my son, would that be okay?
